Topic/ Angle:
Psy Trance is a flourishing global underground dance scene who's key record labels & artists are outselling their peers on the mainstream dance scene and who's followers regularly travel across the globe to the middle of rain forests, deserts, deserted beaches and areas of outstanding natural beauty to partake in its events. We aim to look at how & why this scene operates oblivious to mainstream trends, fashions and marketing yet continues to thrive, despite falling record sales and the so called 'depression' in mainstream dance culture
Who are you and where are you from?
Explain your involvement in the psy-trance scene
What do you most like about it? – Music / Parties etc.? Explain your answer
How did you get involved in the scene? How long have you been involved?
Where do you buy your music from?
Describe the best party you have been to?
Who are your favourite artists & producers/ djs and why?
Do you travel abroad to go to parties? If so why ?
Your Final thoughts anything else you would like to add , bearing in mind people who will be reading this have no idea of psy-trance or the scene
Please email evy7@btopenworld.com

Since when did psytrance labels and artist outsell "mainstream" dance/trance artists? As far as I know, there's also falling record sales on the psytrance scene - atleast according to the majority of labels in here
Interesting with a psytrance feature though. DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

This could be some great exposure for the psytrance scene if taken advantage of correctly, I can't see this as a bad thing, as long as we are represented well.
  Both teams played hard |

that person failed to mention that he DOES NOT work for that magazine in question .....nor has he said he is workin as a freelance .. which he also failed to mention in his email reply back to me .....
if some on here think im steppin out of line , well judge for yourselfs , look at the facts how many of the MAINSTREAM A lists actually play material from acts that we all know .....1dj that being JOOF .. it's been only recently that the media has started to take an interest all because sasha named sphongle track as his number 1 tune ..

how do you know hes not a writer from that magazine and not freelance?
Why else would he do this?
Do you seriously think just cause Sasha charts one song every body will jump on the goabandwagon?
And its not even trance that song, its a breakbeat remix of a psyambient/whateveryoucallshpongle song

Dont understand the problem - if someone want to write a psy trance article - isnt that a good thing? Its quite an interesting story - especially its world wide appeal.
Psy trance doesnt get much coverage in the UK dance mags - whats left of them - but its not the only scene to be ignored - look at how popular happy hardcore is (far more so than psy trance)and that never get covered. I've always been a big fan of tech-trance and that never got covered either - even when it was really big 5 yrs ago.
So theres not much point moaning theres no coverage, then moaning when someone want to cover it! |

I remember an article in Mixmag in about 96/97 on Goa Trance. Mainly because some bloke we met at Spacehopper started quoting big passages from it ("Yeah, I think Wicked Warp by Mandra Gora is the archetypal Goa Trance tune" and other such lines) at me for some unknown reason...maybe he actually wrote the article?, or maybe he was just trying to make himself seem more informed than he actually was?, or maybe it was just a bizarre coincidence and that was his true opinion?
Anyway I digress, the appeal of Psy-Trance is simple. Unlike a number of other dance music genres where "rave" has been almost entirely replaced by "club" (dare I say due to mainstream coverage) - which has sanitised it a bit. Psy-Trance (and other non-credible-to-the-mainstream-genres such as Happy Hardcore) still has that old spirit that made raving great. |

we need an international psy mag! Just like those DJ Mag, Ministry ( I dont know if it still exists), X-Fade, Mix Mag and etc. It has to start somewhere, the only one I know off is Mushroom Mag or Media but it is in German. However, now you got Shangri La La mag which is psy and an annual publication by Mushroom Media called "The trancers guide to the Galaxy". We cant rely on other mags to make psy recognised. If they really wanted know more about it, they would have done so ages ago and not now. I hope some label or organisation would actually start making a psy mag. I am still waiting for both of those mags which ordered along with my cd at saikosounds, i hope its good. |

Evy the girl who posted the ad and her boyfriend were offered to do this article by dj mag in order to somehow cover the bridges between the big club genres and psytrance, since it has, as we know, a big amount of silent mouth, which in a way secretly want to remain in the shadows and not lose the underground "cozyness" and good spirit.
I dont really know what i prefer but some publicity never did wrong so maybe it is indeed a first step for some more recognition at last.
