I can tell you what I am using: * Turntable - Several compact cd's connected to Multi-channel mixer! * Roland MC-505 - Groove-box (to make a good mix) * Sampler - sometimes! * Computer - sometimes! * Alot of CDs!
If I am coming to preform live, I am bringing my synti sometimes! |

1 mixer (8 channels will do), 2 turntables, 2 cdjs. DAT/MD are also important (they are a good way to get music, DAT is slightly higher quality, MD is cheaper and easier to handle, both are pretty common). You shouldn't need much more than that :)
Of course, if you have a budget to give, it would be nice. |

Roy , for a start if you didnt play ever then this is my edvice:
you dont have to get all those above , simply buy cd's and play with them on Cdj's , 2 Cdj's + mixer (at least 3 chanels) and they come with the orgenizers and thats it.
goodluck ;) |

roy. think what and how and when u wants to play. than i recomend go to a friend who has equiptment use it feel it, see if this is REALLY something u want to spend money on.
think - what media do u want to use,cds,vinyl,MD...etc if u think u will need the stuff to be mobile? home mixer can have like 3 or 4 outputs tops- u don`t need much to mix (infact 2 can be kool two).- vestax has good mixers- they r expensive but i prefer them. as for players well, for vinyl u use turntable here u buy only vestax or technics other turntables r rubbish. in cd`s sony cdj 100 r quite good but i am not a master in this field. but before that think if u really want to spend so much money! |

Thanks for all the reply's ,I want to play for myself , and i think the "thing" i saw was a cdj , if i understand all of the info u people wrote, and i have lots of cd's and get lots of them all the time so i probably will use cd's, even tho i have a MiniDisc. So u say i need a mixer and a cdj?hmmmmmm.....ok , i already have a comp. and FL3 and cubase and all that stuff , but it's very difficult to create the music, and i think that playing the music could be much more fun..... What kind of options does the cdj and mixer together give me?? |

the first and main thing about Cdj's is the ability to BeatMix corectly Beat on Beat. you play a disk on one Cdje while on the other Cdj you prepare the next track , corect bpm that will sit on the other track and when you are ready mix them together with the Mixer.
after you learn the basics you can do more sufisticated options with the Cdj's & Mixer.
Have fun ;) |

Hrmm.. I guess.. playing the music can be sometimes more fun than making it.. if you're lazy.. it's easy now.. I've made many a world-class mix with tables, cds, and ni's traktor.. can't imagine mixing with dats.. fuck that.. no speed/pitch contro.. forget it.. may sound good, but unless you play the same BPM your whole set or just mix intros/outros (which some tracks do not have and plus anyone can do it) it sucks.. yeah I realize alot of people mixed with walkmans and dats etc in the old days.. records warp in heat, and stuff is expensive.. but it takes a master to make a good DAT mix.. same BPM for all songs.. (which is also kind of boring.. takes a LOT to be able to build up which any dj should do.. not just start at the same pace and finish, and it should mix well.. i've just heard way too many psy dj's mix intros of songs into the beats of other songs totally not syncronized and it sucks)..
For all the people out there I say.. please.. learn beatmatching before you play anywhere.. and vary the beats.. unless you're a master 145bpm for a whole set is dull.. no buildup and no let down.. it is the dj's job to take you on a journey.. |
