Id buy a house, soundproof a room, buy every synth i can get my hands on that doesnt use patch cables (maybe some of those too), buy like 5 screaming desktop computers, one for music with good sound card and midi interface, one for games, 3 for my cats. Buy at least 2 laptops to use as live/digital dj sets with sound cards/midi interfaces for both. A good midi controller with a decent amount of keys, an Akai APC 40, and a Novation Launchpad, to go with my brand new Live 8 Suite. A library of sample discs too. Also a dj setup with CDJ 2000s, a mixer probably a DJM 800, and maybe a Kaos pad. Then a setup for field recordings with a shotgun mic and other assorted mics, recorded to 32bit WAV. Also every CD I ever wanted and couldnt afford. Maybe a library of vinyls if i can find enough I want, and a pair of Technics 1200s. Why not.

Then Id stock up the place with at least 5 years worth of canned, vacuum packed, or space food, 5 yrs worth of clean pure water (enough for washing as well as drinking), 5 years worth of fuel for a 10,000w+ generator, 5 yrs worth of propane for heat in winter, 5 yrs worth of toilet paper (!!! almost forgot), assorted magazines, 5 years prepaid ahead of time T3 internet connection, maybe if I had enough money 5 years worth of Stella Artois, Jim Beam, and Ravenswood Vintners Blend zinfandel 2005 or 06. Then Id bring my girlfriend and cat and we'd hibernate together for 5 years or so til I become the next Simon Posford.

I wouldn't do half as much music as I do now if it didn't generate enough to pay off the studio rent.

That would interfere with creativity if anything.

This is interesting. A long lost letter from John Lennon and Yoko to a folk singer friend who was worried money and fame could ruin his songwriting.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/entertainmentbritainmusicpeoplelennon

Lennon wrote to Tilston: "Being rich doesn't change your experience in the way you think.

"The only difference, basically, is that you don't have to worry about money -- food -- roof etc.

"But all other experiences -- emotions -- relationships -- are the same as anybodies, I know, I've been rich and poor, so has Yoko (rich -- poor -- rich) so whadya think of that.

"Love John and Yoko."

Since Xolvex started this topic http://forum.isratrance.com/does-more-money-mean-better-music-or-worse/ let's get answers straight from the horses mouths (so to speak). The assumption in the above topic is that money destroys the creative soul of music.

So let's stop guessing and pose the question directly to the artists on isratrance:

If you, by some stroke of business model genius (Alexander Basilisk may be working on this as we speak!), suddenly start receiving an abundance of money - the kind of money assumed to corrupt artistic integrity - How would your next productions be? Be honest.

Would you compromise your art and start making cheesy festival music? Would you gather your notes and try and produce something exactly like your last release? Would you take a vacation to get inspiration for a next level creation?
How do you think it would influence you?

Aren't you missing something here??

I would've thought what you mean is that if you were able to make big money off of your music - then what would happen to it? Would you tweak it in ways that are commercially appealing at the cost of your creativity and originality, thus ending up writing music you know will make you richer but doesn't truly represent you?

If we're simply talking about being rich/wealthy, why on would that affect your music in any way? Having lots of money doesn't change ANYTHING, except that you don't have to worry about stuff.

Yes this is exactly what I'm asking.

If u make money out of your music doesn't that seems like your music is selling? So why change it?
What would probably happen is that as persons we evolve so is our music i guess it would change bit over time , but not for commercial purposes atleast i think ,its a nice topic

It's funny that there's such a stigma and controversy surrounding artists making money from their music... everyone expects each tune to be more killargh than the last, and everybody is quick to point out when an artist makes a sucky tune or a half-assed live set, yet nobody is willing to support them i.e. by actually buying their music instead of blatantly ripping them off by downloading it for free and then bragging about it in places where the artist can read it (such as isratrance, for example).

In my opinion, we should all be happy that psy-trance's most kick-ass minds are still making tunes in their non-work hours, fully conscious that it's going to be mercilessly poached and stolen moments after release (and sometimes before!) to the point where most will just give it away for free anyway on download sites or just if you ask them nicely.

I know a bloke who did the opposite, wrote a bunch of commercial tunes that made him quite a bit of cash & still does in royalties, so he can now kick back in his rather large studio n' just makes n' produces what he likes now.

Pretty cool turn around, lucky bloke           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

...just give me the god damn money!

it depends on HOW you got your wealth: from creating art or by different means (other job, lottery, inheritance, stock market, poker, prostitution, robbing a bank... you know that kind of stuff).
if it's through your art then there's high potential that the cash flow in your direction will affect your future creations. but here we have to consider also the fact if the artist was PURSUING to get rich through his art or not. if it just happened naturally or by accident then the chances of manipulation are smaller. ofcourse it'a also a question of lifestyle expectations. do you want the mansion and a yacht or are you satisfied with normal living standards.
if you get rich through other means then how would it compromise your art? that doesn't make any sense! if you already have the benjamins then you can do anything you want.
