Since Xolvex started this topic http://forum.isratrance.com/does-more-money-mean-better-music-or-worse/ let's get answers straight from the horses mouths (so to speak). The assumption in the above topic is that money destroys the creative soul of music.

So let's stop guessing and pose the question directly to the artists on isratrance:

If you, by some stroke of business model genius (Alexander Basilisk may be working on this as we speak!), suddenly start receiving an abundance of money - the kind of money assumed to corrupt artistic integrity - How would your next productions be? Be honest.

Would you compromise your art and start making cheesy festival music? Would you gather your notes and try and produce something exactly like your last release? Would you take a vacation to get inspiration for a next level creation?
How do you think it would influence you?

All fun but the question is for the artists here. I'm serious. These are the guys producing the music we listen to, I want to know what they think. how would they be

The obvious answer would be that I would quit my day job, rent a modest living space, buy the ideal gear I wanted, and make and release music full time, possibly managing or co-managing a label on the side.

Amount of riches depending, of course.

So you think you guys would continue with your own inspiration and not let the money factor weasel it's way into what you're creating?
Would you continue making the same music as got you the $$, or give yourself some liberty to explore and experiment? make an album that will put you on the beach in front of a spring break crowd?

See. I know there are musicians like you out there who are gold inside and would be un-phased if given fat paychecks.

I wanted to dispell the blanket assumption that money changes things. It doesn't always, if in the right hands.

i think the problem with money and music is not receiving fat paychecks for your output, but artists depending on these fat paychecks.
and the former often leads to the latter in the long term...

I have no idea. I'd like to think I'd be as Axis Mundi said he would be - unfazed and unchanged - but the reality is I have no idea how I'd react. Serious money comes with all sorts of baggage; why else would documentaries on lottery winners make such good TV?

Luckily, if music ever brought me large cash, it would be doing the same for the other guys in the band, and I reckon we'd keep each other on the straight and narrow.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

influx of riches ? , that would probably vary from person to person , but theres a lot of fucking good musicians out there , most are millionaires , why would things be any different for a psytrance artist .. wont ever happen though , there's just not enough people listening to this globally

I'd start making MTV music and spend it all on cocaine.

But seriously, no idea. Could be either way. But I'm guessing I will not stray too much from what I do now.

Id buy a house, soundproof a room, buy every synth i can get my hands on that doesnt use patch cables (maybe some of those too), buy like 5 screaming desktop computers, one for music with good sound card and midi interface, one for games, 3 for my cats. Buy at least 2 laptops to use as live/digital dj sets with sound cards/midi interfaces for both. A good midi controller with a decent amount of keys, an Akai APC 40, and a Novation Launchpad, to go with my brand new Live 8 Suite. A library of sample discs too. Also a dj setup with CDJ 2000s, a mixer probably a DJM 800, and maybe a Kaos pad. Then a setup for field recordings with a shotgun mic and other assorted mics, recorded to 32bit WAV. Also every CD I ever wanted and couldnt afford. Maybe a library of vinyls if i can find enough I want, and a pair of Technics 1200s. Why not.

Then Id stock up the place with at least 5 years worth of canned, vacuum packed, or space food, 5 yrs worth of clean pure water (enough for washing as well as drinking), 5 years worth of fuel for a 10,000w+ generator, 5 yrs worth of propane for heat in winter, 5 yrs worth of toilet paper (!!! almost forgot), assorted magazines, 5 years prepaid ahead of time T3 internet connection, maybe if I had enough money 5 years worth of Stella Artois, Jim Beam, and Ravenswood Vintners Blend zinfandel 2005 or 06. Then Id bring my girlfriend and cat and we'd hibernate together for 5 years or so til I become the next Simon Posford.           .

I would buy a house, then another house somewhere warm, would get a full state of the art studio and try not to let it all get too much to my head.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
