Its all relative. Having been to a lot of breakbeat parties in the UK, a lot of times the biggest tunes where bootlegs, stuff that producers could never release but only on a white label. A lot dont even release such tunes, they just keep them for their sets. Stanton Warriors did bootlegs of the Gorillaz, The Plump DJs had that massive Donna Kebab bootleg of I Feel Love by Donna Summer, Atomic Hooligan did Underworld's Cowgirl, Elite Force did the massive bootleg of Hardfloor's Asperience, the list goes on...all massive tunes that destroyed the dancefloors.
Obviously they were done well, but I love a good dance music bootleg of some pop tunes that I also love.
And a lot of people (the older generation probably) grew up with MTV. Some got into some niche dance music genre, but it does feel great to dance to a nice dance tune of some pop tune you really liked when you was young, innit.
What I still don't understand, is how Dado gets away with using Depeche Mode samples and putting his name all over it.

this is a tribute from a composer to the older artists/bands that inspired him/her and is totally accepted by me, from every artist/band to give their honor with one track, it is each ones musical roots after all

if nothing happens, there's no problem. if they come after you, think of all the publicity that's going to generate for you. so go for it. or just not use a direct sample, but simply re-sequence the parts you want to use yourself. maybe?
anyway, you're a broke dirty hippie, so they have nothing to gain by going after you.

Go for it... but of course there is always a risk.. but without taking them were will it lead you?
after you released the album, send Michael a copy with a note of your account status...
