Something like this... http://www.thomann.de/pt/studiorta_producer_station.htm ...solves the issue of sound reflection on the desk or it's better to have your monitors in proper stands behind the desk?

imo proper stand filled with sand or lead shot.. i have a monitor pair on my desk with auralex foam..it help but i still hear slight resonance in the low mids..on the stands sound is tighter and precise...
depends the desk though..maybe these dont resonate but doubt it..

it depends the monitors if they decuplate more or less internally and the type of desk .. good stands seems like the better and more safe solution to me but cost

I was wondering if the distance between the upper surface (where the monitors stand) and lower one was enough to solve the issue.

I already have a great desk so maybe i'll go for the stands...it's cheaper too!!! Does the plate (in the stand) needs to have the same area ( or bigger) than the monitor? Or can the monitors stand a bit out of the plate? It's hard to find a decent price stand that can fit entirely my monitors? Also should i use some layer between the plate and the monitors?

Thanks

if you have already good desk yes might be better to go for the stands.. i think stands are often smaller than the monitors, never seen some as big personnaly , just look how much weight these can support and check your monitor weight

you might try this if you want to set up your monitors on the desk and hear resonance cause of the desk vibration, but like i posted earlier it might still resonate but less

but what ever solution your monitor sound will reflect on the desk yes..

What PoM said man...

First of all start from a nice triangle
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/triangle_mar2007.gif
i am sure your monitors will have this on manual.
Now for the height must be not to low and not to high from your ears. So check your desk and see what you need. If your desk is low maybe you will need small stands with mopad or if the height of your desk is good just mopad and you will be fine.

If you want my opinion mopad can do dramatic difference in your monitors so for me is necessary to have a pair of.

Also check where the bass reflex is on your monitors, if it is on the back panel you will need more distance from the wall.           ...into the wild....

Hello,

I had this desk before : it is HUGE. so you will not avoid desk reflections with it.

Also it is a bit high, so to put your monitors on stand behind, you have to put them high and tilt them down to fire to your ears.

But from a producer point of view, it's a really nice desk : lot of space.

Beware of two things :
- when the low part is empty, the metal plates tends to resonate : you can tame it with some foam (I did put some hidden bass traps there ...)
- the spacing between the rack screw holes isn't standard : not a problem to rack you gear, but you will not be able to put each piece really close to each other like in a real rack : so you end up with some small spaces and finally have a little bit les U than advertised. But if you don't intend to rack it up full, it's not a problem.           http://www.storm-mastering.com
