So obviously psytrance is riddled with movie samples, tv clips, talk/presentation samples, you name it.
Is there a precedent here for copyright law? Are they considered fair use? Are people usually outside the U.S. making these? Obviously it's been going on for ages, I'm completely unaware of the standard here on how folks handle this, or if it's something worth worrying about.
Any considerations?

As a matter of fact,I had a question about that:There is a series that I want to rip the hell out of it,it has great dialogue and just awesome awesome soundtrack (by Christopher Franke, for those who know who he is).
I just about to ask what is the best program of ripping stuff out of .avi or .mpeg or whatever ?
From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

i just chuck the whole video in ableton on an audio channel and cut out the part i want.
you can do this in cubase to File-> Import-> Audio from Video file
you can do it also in Reaper.
My Ableton doesn't do this....it can't read AVI or MKV....what type of videos are you doing this with in Ableton?

I see peoples very happy here when talking about stolen pads/Samples , I think this a shame and this celebration must be stop .
When you "Take" somthing from otheres .. This first move already UnArt act/Behavior .
Try built your music by your OWN ideas , There no point being a lego man .

^^^ of course I agree. if they were discussing samples like basses, pads, leads, etc... (not going to include kicks and drums since those are kinda a different story.) but yeah of course.
But movie/tv samples are a tad different since they are usually vocal samples of sorts in use.
now it would be a different story if they were using a score out of a movie. then yeah thats just kinda fucked haha. (unless credit was given of course)

"Taking" something from others its something everybody do even if they dont know they r doing it.
people recycle stuff ALL THE TIME even when u go K-bbb u recycle someone idea and its OK.
I think Sampling is an art. some people do it like shit and some make Insane stuff.
I think we living in a time that its all about SHARING stuff. people making stuff together and a lot of people giving art for free. I tell u im not a big fan of that mash up music and all that but i cant say its UnArt act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art
Watch the movie its very interesting and its not only about music but you'll see
