Would you agree with me ...that there is no point of being a dj ...no matter what style you mix ..

if you use pro tools !

i would never use such programmes its cheatin and would make me feel a lack of self belief in my ability of being able to mix ...

computer programs don´t make good music by themselves you know time traveller. good musicians make good music so don´t blame it on the gear. and believe me there is NO easy way except not trying hard enough.           Mastering available here:

Despite what I may have said before, if the person at the controls makes me dance, I'll be the first to tell them they've done a good job...

I don't think it matters.

The real measure of a DJ is what they are going to do when they have a dancefloor in front of them. You are never going to see a DJ mixing with pro tools in a live setting....I don't think it would be practical. Anyways, if a DJ can rock the floor on CDJs/turntables, I don't give a crap what they are using at home to make their demo CDs.

Just give me good music , I really dont mind if it's coming from a laptop with Traktor or CDJ and a mixer.

good point!

anyways, sometimes i feel like there's no point at all in being a dj, unless, of course, to cheer the crowd, like clowns. The guy goes there and play other people's music which in many times is all set in a few cds and they just use the crossfader and very irrelevant mixing, when compared to the original track. I AM NOT generalizing... of course, there are very good djs that we do feel the mix and a differente groove, but, to me, these people are artists, not djs...           cna't find it

I think as a DJ you've got 2 jobs to do and it's a fine line to tread. You job is primarily to keep the crowd on the dancefloor, but it's also your job to get people listening to good music. A good DJ does both.           "One nation under a groove".

One of the charms of goa/psytrance was that the actual artist got all the (deserved) attention and not the one playing their stuff...

I still consider that what is being played is more important than how its being played. Of course some excellent mixing helps but give credit where credit is due...the artists make this scene. Thankgod.

By what i mean is when you are releasing a mix album for others to buy , as i myself have bought mix albums by other dj's , then only to find out that they

a - never mixed any of the recs at all

or

b - used pro tools to make it more slicker , 2 create the mix that the dj wanted in which he felt he couldn't acheive by doin it normally ...

and there has been countless albums which pro tools has been used on them ...and it well shows , sorry but imo that counts to nothin more than fraud ! cheatin the public .... as john digweed openly admitted in the mixmag that he used pro tools on his albums ie northern exposure , and the same goes for steve lawler .. the list is endless ..

and its even been used on the oakie gu cd 004 disc 1 track 9 disc 2 trak 7

Oakie needs to use Pro Tools or nobody would buy his CDs.

Seriously, though. This is definitely a different issue than an unknown DJ handing out a demo to get gigs.

I am somewhat conflicted on this. When I BUY a mixed CD, I want something that is a piece of art. If I am spending my money on it, I like to hear the "perfect mix". But when a DJ mixes something with Pro Tools, it will set overly high expectations of what I want to hear from them live on the decks and inevitably leads to some disappointment.

So, I guess as far as a paid product, I say go for it....do whatever it takes to make it worth my €15 and create something flawless. But I am probably not going to be as impressed when I put down my cash to catch them live, unfortunately.

I use everything at my fingertips to make people dance. Don't know what you guys are getting all huffy puffy for, it's not like live spinning helps the crowd's x work any better.
