howdy

for people out there with experience using protools systems i am wondering if there is a difference in the 'sound' when using waves plugins on protools systems when compared to using on logic or other systems (cubase, wavelab etc.)

i can't really hear a difference but i am wondering if there is a technical difference ?

assuming the file is already in the digital domain, loaded into both systems as a wav. and both at the same bit depth and sampling frequency ?

what about TDM vs. RTAS ?

what im mainly asking is... is it the same code used by waves on all their plugins (VST, RTAS, TDM, DirectX) ?

VST and DirecX use the same code; the only difference is the Waveshell wrapper which makes the DirectX version VST compatible. Again, I think RTAS Waveshell is just a wrapper around the same DLLs. Because TDM uses dedicated DSP chips with a different instruction set, the identical code can't be used but the same algorithms used in native versions are ported across - although the code might be different the functions it performs are identical.

many of the waves tdm plugs (if not all) use 48 bit double sampling which ,if written properly, allow for more precise calculations, this should be audible in most cases imo.
i dunno if this is an option you can switch on and off on the tdm versions, but in my experience the tdm plugs generally sound more solid compared to native processing.
still the quality of the plugin, native or dsp based, is all up to the programmer and exceptions are found in both "camps".           Mastering available here:
