I have a questions regarding using Traktor to DJ live with headphones. I currently have an Edirol PCR 30 MIDI controller and a laptop. I have used them in the past to control Traktor 2.5. I would now like to also buy an external Sound Blaster Audigy 2 to use for live performances (laptop sound card gives a bit of a buzz). As I understand it, the Audigy has more than two output channels. My question is, can Traktor be configured in such a way that I can have stereo output going to the mixing desk and a third output going to my headphones?
I know this is possible using the Herculese controller, but I want to know if it is possible with a regular Midi controller and a nice external sound card. If you have done it before, some instructions would also be super appreciated
Peace out,

Yes Traktor can be configured that way.You can send 2 stereo channels from the audigy to the mixer and then use the mixer headphone out for your headphones.
I wouldn't recommend it though. You'll have latency problems and not so good sound coming out . So gather up a few more bucks and spend on a better
audio card. There are many external cards with 2 stereo out that don't cost thaat much and will give way better results than the audigy !
cheers man

Thanks for the advice dude.
So you say, Audigy cant really handle the whole sterio output and headphone output thing too well...?
Can you give me a example of a better audio card?
Thanks! |

Heya
now im a little confuse. Why do i need a stereo output coming from each of the turtables. Surely traktor is combining the two songs in the mix and creating one stereo output which i plug into the mixing desk...?

Sorry man , didn't get your words right from the begining I thought you cared about using a dj mixer and pass each traktor deck on a separate mixer channel.
So you just need one stereo output for the mixer and one more for the headphones , right ? Yes the audigy is capable ofcourse for that hehe Everything else goes as the answers above.
Oh and since i saw you're using a laptop you might want to check a pcmcia card such as the echo indigo dj.
cheers !

Thanks for the info, seems like you know whats going on...
guess i'll trust you and invest in the Audigy then. You can get it pretty cheap here in SA. I dont think I need an internal sound card. (assuming thats what the pcmcia is...) I think I will look alot cooler with an external one hehe.
Have you actually used the Audigy? I found with the Edirol PCR and with using the herculese, that its almost impossible to get anything to work and usually requires some elaborate trick. What im asking is, how difficult is it going to be to set up and all...?
laters... |

I use firewire 410 with tracktor and have no latency at all. What I see in the waveform is what I hear with no delays, and when I change the knobs things are pretty much instant... |

Most laptops have this buzz, it's because they are not actually grounded at all! I don't think buying a new soundcard will fix that. It's like dirty currets that can't be sent to the ground so the just wonder 'round aimlesly ;-)
If you can borrow a DI from someone, try DIing it to see if that works.
It wouldn't be a good idea to spend any money until you try that.
