Hard to picture what you're describing. I'd just message Tom.
  You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

to put it simpler : how to transfer midi clips from arrangment to session view and link them into groups like -Drum,bass exc. Most of the people start from session and then just press record button & it automaticaly appears in arrangment-that is clear . But i want to do other way around ;-) ,could not find any tutorial online for that & abelton doesn give proper explanation as well. I will try to get to Tom of course-but he is so busy -chanses are small... |

So you want to record in session view rather than arrangement view? Sorry..still not really getting it.
And as far as "grouping" tracks, I don't think it's possible in Live (although my knowledge might be out of date since I'm still working with Live 6). You could either just set the tracks next to each other, or if you want to group them to get creative with effects and stuff you can click the IO button in session view and set the outputs of a group of tracks to "Sends Only"...then you can have them all going to one channel. I do this a lot to layer basslines and leads.

I want to have all independed channels running under one group say percussion - you want to contol them seperatly (for example i want to use one hi hats pattern and then add another hi-hat, snare or replace the first one). Just to remind that i got all loops(midi clips) written in arrangment and they all play nicely in that view concernig the quality of mix im satisfied . But for live performance i would like to use TomCosm techique -that means move all the stuff written in arrangment -into session, lets say in 6 tracks(percussion,lead,efects..+3others
) and control them there all stucked into diferent groups >For example:Percussion group (kick, snare, hats)and control them seperatly. Any suggestions guys how to do it?? Does that mean i have to bounce every sound or mellody pattern in order to put it into session view and have control over it? ?? |

If I'm understanding you, you can just click and drag a midi or audio clip from arrangement view into session view. Click the clip, drag it to the button that takes you to session view on the upper right - ||| - and drop it on whatever track you want.
And you want to control the individual samples in one midi track separately? I know how to do that with Impulse..maybe Battery too. Let me know if that's what you're talking about..don't feel like typing it all out if it isn't.

There's probably a way to do it with Battery and other samplers, but I've never needed to, so I'll explain it with Impulse...
-Create a new MIDI track with Impulse and load your samples
-Create a new audio track
-Click the "IO" button to the right of the master channel to open track I/O settings.
-On the new audio track, in the drop-down menu under "Audio From," select the MIDI track with Impulse (if it is a new project, it will be "1-MIDI" by default)
-In the drop-down menu underneath that, select the sample that you want to control separately.
-On the audio track, under "Monitor," select "In" (should be "Auto" by default).
Then that individual sample will be sent to the audio track and will not play on the MIDI track. All other samples you load in impulse will play on the MIDI track, so if you want to control any of those individually you'll have to do the same thing for each sample. If you want to add effects or maybe automate something for that sample alone, you can do so on the audio track. The sample settings in Impulse and its master volume will also be sent to the audio track.

1/ Highlight all clips in Ableton Arrangement that you wish to transfer to Session.
2/ Cut/Copy.
3/ Click on the first Session box of the leftmost MIDI track from the group you highlighted to transfer. For sxample if you are transferring clips from Arrangement channels 1,2,3,4 into Session, click on Session Channel 1, box 1, and paste here. Everything lines up intelligently.)
4/ Paste. All your Session clips will be pasted in relative alignment to where they were in Arrangement. This means if you have spaces between clips in a row, there will be a relative corresponding Session box where there will be no clip.
A cool thing I like to do (I base my set on Cosm's model also) is to align all your audio stems with each other so the track plays normally in Arrangement. Then I cut up all the stems according to even bar lengths. Then I delete all sections that contain no audio (for example, if I have 8 bars with no audio... delete). Do that for all stems. This will leave spaces between your newly cut sections.
Highlight all and paste into Sessions and you will see spaces between some of your clip column groups. Highlight all your Session spaces (Ctrl + A) and remove all the stop buttons.
Assign a MIDI controller button or keyboard key to scroll up and down scenes and another button to launch scenes. If the Stop buttons are removed, the currently playing clips in another scene will continue playing when the new scene launches.
If you follow the same format with all your tracks, this method (thanks Cosm ) really makes it easy to mix and match sounds from different tracks in a Live setting.
