I'm looking at buying a pair of beyerdynamic dt770 pro headphones. I have a guitar center by my house and I guess they have an exclusive model with a higher resistance, I think 80 ohms.
So my question is what are the benefits of a higher resistance, and the benefits of a lower resistance?

Main difference will be the loudness.
Otherwise I don't think you need to worry too much about matching the impedance of amp and headphones, but there could potentially be little differences in sound quality depending on the rating of the amp you use to drive them.

Alright, well thank you very much. I've decided to go with the 80 ohm because I guess its considered a "low" impedance. They have 250 ohm ones as well, but I can't afford an expensive headphone amp right now so lower is better in my case.
1 last thing to upgrade...Studio monitors
Imma go for the Dynaudio Bm5a's Then I'll finally be able to stop buying equipment for a while...
One more thing, I heard they take a while to "work in" so should I leave something playing through them at medium volume for a few days? By "they" I mean the headphones...

I have the same headphones, i used to own the 250 ohm version which i sold & then got the 80 ohm version..
The 80 ohm version sounds MUCH better, part of that might be due to the fact that they're easier to drive..
Mine sounded pretty good straight out of the box but yeah you can leave some music playing at a normal volume to 'break' em in..
