Question About PowerBooks

Hey all! I have a question about powerbooks. I recently bought myself an Intel iMac and some of my software will not run on the new intel processors, so my idea is to buy myself a used PowerBook G4 in order to run the basic powerpc based software that I need. But I must chose the right model so that I don't spend more than 1000$.
My question is: Is a 1ghz G4 powerful enough to run at least 10 tracks in a sequencer or will I have trouble. I expect to have at least a GB of RAM in my machine no matter the other specs. Should I aim more for the 1.5ghz-1.67ghz PowerBook's or will 1ghz be sufficient? Thought?           Peace Love Unity:

i could run about 26 tracks of audio, or about 8-12 tracks of software instruments plus some audio on my G4 (1ghz with 1Gb RAM).

count out Reaktor, one instance of GoBox or something like that will bottom it out

think the 1.5-1.6 Ghz should be sufficient for what you are trying to do, though

with this set up you could use the built in network midi driver, and AU Net send/receive and have it pretty seamless           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

I wouldnt recommend a pb g4 for production....
Got me really frustrated, and i was using a g4 1.67 ghz with 2gb of ram.
Still not powerfull enough for running vst's

But i have to admit i'm really lazy when i comes to boucing

hi, i've a powerbook g4 1,67 2gb ram, i bought few days ago thinking that has power enought but now i'm not so happy :-( i'm producing with ableton live 5 and motu ultralite, sometimes i think i'm going wrong with some settings but i don't think so, i think that is a great ppc but not so powerfull to run enought vst, example:

Settings: 44000 and 512 samples
vst: battery 2, vanguard, imposcar, 1 audio track and audio starts making problems, i have to expand buffer until 1000 samples or freeze 1 or 2 vst, maybe is normal but i don't like the way i can work in this situation, so, i'll wait until leopard and i'll buy an iMac dual core, even if the situation is not so permissive because many vst program have to be translate in UB yet... maybe i'll switch back to window :-(
Sorry for my english...

well i just did about 9 tracks all of them in a template of logic that had 50 audio tracks, 20 instruments and 16 buses

its a g4 1.5ghz and 1.5 ram ! quite happy with it at the moment, but i wouldnt mind having a new one

@5-ht..try following:

in ableton go to settings and deactivate all inputs and all (but one) outputs,
same in the tracks, deactivate inputs..
also midi- reduce to one input for yr keyboard..

in apple- go system - energy and switch to maximum processor

maybe helps..

Well anyway, ever since i build a amd pc half the price of my powerbook i've been running about 20 synths(sometimes more) loads of fx and about 20 audio channels without any problems!
Now i can finaly be lazy again

I have the occasional glitch when im really stressing it with a lot of fx but overal it runs perfect
Maybe a good choice you aswell?

I know windows sucks but i have to say it made me pretty happy, some problems but at least good performance for a reasonable price

i spend 800 euros for a brand new amd 64 dual core 3.8 ghz with 2 gigs of ram

cheers,

yeah forgot to say that, I always had the buffer maxed out

yes, a little frustrating at times, thats why I got a Quad PPC (used, not a bad price)

now i can be really lazy! (never go back to a PC for music now!)           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!
