Hello Psy People
I am confused about something.Suppose I have a track and I post the same in "new tracks" section for review, can I send the same to labels.
When we post our tracks on any sites, cant they be just downloaded and used by someone else. How to avoid this.
Thanks

you could find a website that will stream your mp3 for listening and they won't be able to download it.
I use acidplanet.com to post my songs and disable downloads, so when im promoting my track i can just send a link to a stream of my mp3 and they wont be able to download it, just listen.
Im sure theres other sites out there that will accomplish the same thing |

@rogerthat27 - Thanks for your prompt repsonse.Thats a nice idea but Can I send the same track to labels?
There are hi-tech recorders these days and they can actually record tracks in good quality while the track is playing.(may be I am mistaken)

yea they could record it but that why i post an mp3 for streaming, the high end tends to distort and the bit rate is smaller than that of a .wav..... yea people can still record it if they really wanted it to but they are not gonna get the highest quality copy. therefore probably wont sound too good when they play it out at parties, especially in the high end
What i do i'll keep a mastered 24 bit .wav version for myself and if they are interested in the song send them the high quality version via FTP or just mail them a data cd
but i got to add, piracy is ALLWAYS going to be a problem. if your track is released, theres allways gonna be a jerk whos gonna rip the cd to thier hard drive and share it for free |

rogerthat27 - thanks again
So when you post your tracks on sites, what kbps do you recommend so that the sound is also not much affected and someone might think its useless to record it:-)
Thanks

imho, it's better to post tracks in public places in good mp3 quality (256-320), but make some fades, or add "this is for promotion use only", or cut intros and outros, soemthing like that. The track in bad mp3 quality leaves bad impression, even if it is musicallly good.

i like good quality (192-320)
i tend to cut about 25% - 33% completly and make 10 seconds fade in + fade out
so 4:30 is normal demo for the "peaple"
to labels i tend to send those demo first and later if they are intrested i send 320 full , but be sure its label and not some msn freak trying to get your music
