Make a habit of mixing the kick in at around -10dB and you'll be fine with headroom.

Peace out.

even in 32 bit float there is lot of headroom some plugins clip and some sound noticeably worst with hot signal.

Not all plugins used floating-point maths; Waves plugins for instance are all fixed-point, so will introduce clipping if the signal level goes over 0dBFS. This is why Waves plugins have a Trim control which automatically optimises the output signal level. On the other hand, the Sonnox EQ plugin is floating point and is effectively unclippable.

The Sonnox do have the OVER indicator and the sound does change when its on, or is it my eyes tricking my ears into thinking so?

Peace out.

If you're using a 32-bit FP host, then yes, I'm afraid so. Check the manual.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

From the Oxford EQ manual, p.28:
Quote:
8. Over Light is Orange. The Red Over light has been changed to orange to downgrade the warning level since in Native mode there is no clipping.
9. Disabling of Over Light. Some people prefer to work without the Over light active because in Native mode there is no clipping and in many cases there is no reason why the plugin should not have an output level over 0dB. A new menu option has been added to achieve this.

Hot .. ? Where ? Maybe put them in the freezer to get some cold .

How it can be hot if mix is wrong and sounds are jumping here to the high's , And im asking myself (First thing !) Why this should be happen from begining ? . Im sure it will limit the mastering work and may you get it back (If the mastering will get it from you , Im not so sure , I think the mastering will hear it at the first listening and he will see that prob when he will try take the track up - First sign's of distortion will appear (+ Sounds will cover sounds) , Your sound will be un clear/Clean and warped . If this is what you want go for it .. But remember the big turbo's at the partys . Mix your track better , When you take the master vol down this is just (And only) illusion for your ears , Not more , The problem still exist . So .. Work .. (You) And dont let the mastering "Suffer" or being limited and just because you was lazy

I agree that pulling the master fader down won't improve the mix, I don't think anyone's saying that it will. However what it WILL do is give the mix a little more headroom without changing the balance; this might be useful for example if the mix is perfect apart from the kick being say 4dB too quiet, and the track already peaks at -2dBFS. If you bring the master fader down by 6dB or more, you will now have the headroom to make the kick louder without clipping anything.

Of course the very best engineer will mix their track perfectly from the start and will never need to touch the master fader, but who here gets everything right first time all the time? I certainly don't.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
