uh, yeah, if someone wanted to give me $2500 for $100, I'd take them up on it too.

I got my Macbook pro for like 800 used and love it!
I have always been a PC guy till my wife got a Macbook pro for school and I fell for it. Loved the thing so I got one.
I'll never go back.

For me I was sold on the plain common sense of the way they make a product. No needed extra installs no damn driver issues nothing, its all good to go no worries. Most plug and play things actually work that way, its worth every extra dime I spent on it. Everything else about the company sucks I dont want an iPhone or iPod I would however like to have an iPad to use as a portable midi controller for video and audio so I could walk around the party and still be in control of whats going on but thats a different subject.
They are just tools. You can get a pair of scissors from a dollar store and the hardware store but I bet the dollar store ones break first and are not as solid as the hardware set.

They are the same, they are just computers...but, you get what you pay for.
Also just like cars the more nice and expensive sport cars cost more to fix if something happens but they hold there resale value better and have a larger want for them so they are easier to sell if you need to.

Oh but dont believe the hype there are viruses for Mac not as many but they are out there and not as rare as people like to think.

I will never go back to PC I love my MBP but I am far from a fanboi.           \\\"Invoking the inner dancing buddha with future frequencies from beyond\\\" ~GyPsy

do you have a link?
i read tech sites regularly and have never read about a real virus or worm for Mac OS X.
there are a few malicious programs that can damage your system if you give them an administrator password, but i've never heard about something that installs without your consent or could cause damage without being given a admin password. if there's such a thing i - being a mac user - would sure like to know about it.

I have no first hand knowledge of this, but its probably malware and not a 'true' virus in the sense that its intent is purely malicious.

I've been using PCs for the last...16 years or so, since I was in third grade. Had the internet for around just as long, and as far back as I can remember I have been downloading all sorts of shit from less than reputable sources, most of the time without any sort of anti virus software, and I have never had anything worse than malware that can be removed with spybot or other such things.

I don't even *know* anyone who has ever had a legit virus, though I've had a lot of people who are computer illiterate tell me they have a virus, when in fact they either fucked something up or don't understand how to maintain their computer

When people ask me this type of questions, the first thing that comes to mind is 'better at what?'. Without getting more into specifics of the question, you usually get answers battling back & forth that really can't answer the question, because the question is too vague.

But people want an answer, so I've over-simplified my response over the years to match the over-simplified question:

Get a Mac & try it for yourself. If you don't like it, you'll know why. If you don't try it yourself, you're always going to be wondering. And as you see, there are many very happy Mac converts. As pointed out above, you probably won't have any trouble selling it if you decide you don't like it.

Don't get hung up on the word virus, other vulnerabilities can install without your consent/knowledge.

Charlie Miller has completely exploited Safari on Mac 3 years in a row. He took 100% complete control over the Mac computer within less than 2 minutes each time.

@ Padmapani

I was feeling like my system had slowed down a little from when I got it so I looked into it. I installed a free Norton suite thing from Comcast and it showed I had like 12 Trojan horses on my system like 2 days ago. I have no real info on them, I dident care to find out I just wanted to get rid of them. Seems I'm back up to speed now and looks to be all good, only had to delete one file each and only once.

I have also seen other friends of mine with mac books get something similar.

I have never heard of any real damage happening to anyone's machines or files but they are there and slow your shit down and most likely are sending out info about us.

There is nothing special or magical about these machines, the "virus" codes were just always written for pc thats why it was never an issue but it seems that they are starting to write more malicious bots for mac now also.

I'm going to buy Little Snitch when I have the cash so I can keep a closer eye on whats come'in in and out of my computer.          \\\"Invoking the inner dancing buddha with future frequencies from beyond\\\" ~GyPsy
