lo all,

i am doing a live in ableton, all is nicely together, every track has the same headroom, but, when i render the whole thing to disk (in order to make a backup cd) and open the .wav file in wavelab, it doesnt look so good... lots of differences in volume, which i cannot explain (yet)... (btw, i tried both normalise on and off), no difference... any help is welcome... thnx

Wow, I don't know what to tell you on that one... I end up boosting the volume on the audio clip in arrangement view and that takes care of any percieved sound differential for me... But I haven't heard anything different when I render it...

Maybe u can put a analyser, like the waves one, to the main fx channel and look if the volume is changing when u play it in live.

I havn't used live yet, so i don't know if u can chain plugins to a master channel, if u can u can also use a limiter/eq before the analyser and automate it, to get little "boost" when the sound gets to quite. Or u use some hardware stuff (eq/limiter) for ur live act, if u got that stuff.            Signature

hey guys... thnx for thinking along, i searched the net a bit and some people seem to have serious problems with rendering in ableton, i use TapeIt now, which already gives a much better looking wavefile. EYB, i did what u said already, took the Inspector from EAS and put it on the master channel, i changed the volumes of each track so they have .3 db headroom. Funny enough the TapeIt plugin also shows the headroom, so no place for doubt there...

anyhow, im not so sure about the rendering function of ableton anymore... its doing something strange imho... the quest continues...

I bounce/render a lot of track from live ableton & no sound problems.

Check your mix & automation & CPU , usual no CPU problems for render a track with live, he make a "of line bounce", so your pc have time for work good.

Maybe is a preference wrong set up ...........

Good luck

let me see if i got this right
when you play your track from live it sounds good and when you mixdown it you get mixing inconsistencies, very weird,
ive been working with live for a year now and nothing similar happened although my mixes arent as flat and solid as i wanted them i never thought it was the sequencers fault

what does this 'mixdown assistants' do? are they usefull ?

jo again.. been busy with some other stuff, hence the late reply, as for the inspector, i really like the stuff from Elemental Audio Systems, and its way cheaper then Waves...

Megalopsy, i did exactly what you described, and then this weird waveform comes up, solved it with an incredible fifties looking free vst plug, called TapeIt, it does the job really well... so for the time being its ok.. thnx all for thinking along...
