I am trying to make a kick, Something like the kick in this track :

Can someone please explain to me :
1. What kind of kick sample should I choose to begin with
2. How do I make the kick sounding round in the attack (Like the attack of the kick in this track)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi!

-Take a Sine wave
-Play one note, like C1
-Pitch bend if down from way up high down to your note, with a pitch envelope
-Tweak the amp envelope

Its the tweaking of those envelopes that will change (drastically) you kick timbre and tone           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

What he said^^

And play around with the attack time a little, until you get the sound you want.

The kick in the track you posted is layered with a bit of white noise as well. Very short though (about 1/4 of the kick length).

What really helps to achieve a sharp but 'thumby' attack is to add a very short white noise note about 10ms infront of the kick. Tweak until it sounds good to you.

Thank you both for the help,
I will try to tweak my kick to get as close as I can with the advice you gave me.

Yeah! I usually like to add a little FM in the beginning, to add more higher frequencies.

Take any wave of choice (different waves will add different tones), add a bit of it FMing the sine wave to taste, with a really quick decay, and sustaining at zero - so it's nothing more than a click. Little nuances in the attack or decay of this modulating wave goes a long way!
Or cheat, and layer the hick with a closed high hat           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz
