so i found out that i have 3GB in cubase audio folder. lots of unused samples there that i want to delete. so i open 'Pool window' and did 'Remove unused media' and than 'Empty trash'--> 'Erase from hard..' i think i made a mistake and maybe deleting the files not only from cubase audio folder but also from my samples folders.. what im doing wrong/what can i do?

If you've deleted the wrong files, there's nothing you can do; they're gone. Maybe file recovery software can help you get some of them back.

Next time you're importing an audio file from a sample folder into your project, make sure you tell Cubase to 'copy to project folder'; this makes sure you're working on a copy of the file, not the original.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

what you should of done is backed up your project, it automatically removes unused files while specified upon execution.

its a great way of reduce the size of your project, instead of going sample by sample trying to figure out whether it belongs to the project or not.

Be always sure that your samples land in the right audio folder. As Colin OOOD already mentioned.
This thing once happened to me too, since than I mostly drag my files into the right folder even before loading into the project..or into the arrange window I mean           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Check your trash to see if the samples are still there. Then choose right click 'put back to original place' or whatever the english version of your OS says.           soundcloud.com/supergroover
