Hello friends
Can anyone be kind of enough to give some insight on this question .
I want to put my mixdowns through an outboard compressor for making a rough master and to squeeze out and even out the sound a little bit ... Like putting the L2 plugin on the master ...
Now everything works fine except sometimes the breaks or a kick after a short break get really loud .
Any idea what settings i should look into to resolve this ??
thanks

i dont remmeber the L2 much, just that it usually sux when you push it more than 1 db of reduction on fast transients music.try faster release for the pumping problem and maybe less gain reduction. but forget L2 imo or use it just for little reduction it can do nice thing sometimes, try sonnox izotope or elephant and i guess there is many others that are ok. |

it could come from your outboard comp too that may be too slow or not suited for bus compression on fast bpm music but yes try faster release , not too fast attack and maybe less compression , you can also try to use 2 comps in serie with differents settings.one with faster attack that compress just to catch some peaks here and there and one with slower attack that let pass the transients for gluing and groove,it could work nicely. (sichain filter can be a must on some comps for compressing the master) |

Usually I use compression on the single tracks and not on the final mix. Its much easier to control compression this way than to compress the full track.

Im going to try the settings u mentioned and check the results ... i was using a much more severe setting .. like 8:1 ... fast attack and medium release .
thanks Colin and PoM

8:1 is an awful lot on a full mix, and judging from your post you had a hefty gain reduction going on as well.
Peace out.

you guys got it spot on ... too much gain reduction ... the reduction meter was almost all the way up or atleast around 70/80% .... im going to surely try Poms idea about 2 compressors in parallel, it sounds really interesting .... thanks isra folks
