hey guys,

after recently purchasing some monitors im starting to eq my tracks. I use many low end sounds all sitting near each other, they seem to be working but im always questioning "is it?" How does one know when frequencies are clashing or working harmonicall and how did you more experienced artist recognise clashes when you were learning? Are there any processes which would be handy to take onboard and training my ears for these clashes?

thanks very much in advance.

P.s. this forum has been a bible to me in the past, just want to thank everyone on here. We have something special on this forum.

if you just bought monitors my advice is to listen to a lot of released material to realy know what it is all about

in your productions stick to whats sounds good

tecnically, check if your bass is in conflict with other instrumens the kick, for instance

when other instruments play at the same time with the bass does it stop being heard or noticed?

do your leads conflict with hats and other percussion (do the sounds distort or drop in level)?

listen to sounds in the lower mids, can you hear rumble or mud (low freq sounds)?

also check if yout bass and kick can be felt, not only heard

hope it helps,

more proficient producers may have better tips, but those are my 2 cents

to feel better try a multiband(i suggest the one in sx) compressor, create a frequency range from 0 to 60 hz.then solo it.if u can here the bass and the kick clearly with no distortion or harmonic reduction its ok.if not use a filter on the kick on 80 hz or tune your kick a bit higher.
dnt overdo it with bass frequencies, they can be really tricky and spoil ur mix.focus on where your song will be heard.b sure that in a club a dj overuses the low eq.so keep a logical level on bass frequencies and try to think wot wiil happen if u hear your mix on a small system, then u ask ''where s that god damn bass gone'' so think clever not jst like a bass minded.bass is good i no, really good, but most important is to have a fuul, clear, loud mix where u can play it everywhere and feel comfortable about it..

introduce every element one at time, pan them from left to right and if you can hear them both in left and right and center then i guess you should be okej...

you will for sure hear if the element you introduced reduces some other elements clarity too much.... experiment and balance the volumes good and tweak the sounds to fit the picture...

but some dirt is not always bad...
it all depends on what you are after... its good to have that kind of idea sometimes...
