not AU but for Protools..
this Flanger sounds really better, clearer & somehow finer.. not that washy, very artificial or plastic sound as the most that you can find atleast in the common sequencers, atleast to my liking.
IMO you don't hear that it's a plug in.
Way different colour of sound than for example the one from Logic, that of course work proper but sound very digital IMO. Still without knowing it exactly I guess nothing beats a moogerfooger.

therres alternative ways as well
some delays (with really quick repeats) will have a modulation section where you can pull the delay taps appart which will get you boingy resonant sweeps
something like SIGMUND by D166 group has an env follower where you can do the same trick and have it envelope alond with the sound....really boingy
or if your after subtle timbral sweep you can duplicate the track a few times lowering the volume a little every time and put a delay on each in ratios of the predesecing track..... ( but inevitably gives you phase problems,,so you need to align the waveforms....i think)
this is really nice for fx as you can have a different flange on every pass. just drag the sample forward or backward
also have you every tried Guitar FX,, in my ears theres even a huge difference between a plugin and a pedal
i use the Boss Bass Flanger. its beefy and not to harsh up the top
just a couple of ideas,, no doubt theres a few flaws in these practices but experimentation give new ideas...and so on
or you can do all the suggestions with a flange on top
