Well, if I get what you're saying, then it has to be like that. If a portion of your midi has both 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/32th (grid) notes on it, then you'd have to select different quantize values for them separately - good thing is that Logic allows you to do so, not a very common feature if you look around on other software.
You can always crop the midi parts where that happens, work them as separate events and then merge it all together after it's good to. I know I sometimes do that.
If you mean notes you've recorded with some input device, then setting it for the higher value (like 1/32) will give you more resolution (as in, more spaces where the notes can fall on) but chances are you'll need to zone in for more specific parts of it where you want notes to fall on the beat and offbeat, for instance.
So I think you're doing it like you're supposed to. Also don't forget that sometimes placing things a little bit off the grid is where the gold is, time wise. |
