I'd like to note EST 1 & 2 by doof records as an example on how to NOT make cds.
The digipack quality is low, but then it's a digipack so you can only blame them for choosing digipacks and not jewel cases. Also the cds themselves are of low quality. Not a single scratch on both, and I can't even rip them to my pc. Keep getting errors, and can't even complete the last track (on each of the cds).

Mike A, there is a not so new tecnology out there that makes it harder for u to rip a cd. It is intended for ppl how share music or trade them not to do that. I don't know if that is the case 'cause I don't have that cd.
By the way this tec. is not in full efect yet becasue some stereos had problems plaing the cds...

Dunno if it's copy protection. Happens mainly only on the last track. 8 tracks are ok and only the last one is protected?

Besides - even if it is - let's say I'm a DJ who doesn't want to play originals, for obvious reasons. What do I do?

Don't buy records from that label then? Hammer at it with some crazy error-checking ripping software? I had a topic about copy protection on discs a while back when the Oktava release Phaethon's Voyage went loco on the system while I was playing out... I eventually had to record the audio output from a CD player at home and burn THAT which is so goddamn stupid. Vowed never to buy another release of theirs as long as they are sneaking in copy protection, which is just a moronic and disrespectful way to treat your ACTUAL customers.

Now then, let's try to turn this topic around to something positive and praise releases which actually DO have nice presentation and packaging!

Haltya - Forest Flavour has some of the nicest earth tone art work I've seen on an album, everyone should check it out!
Phi's Phinalizer comes in an interesting sleeve with some unique artwork that gives it a good look.
Uni - Venus has an incredibly beautiful painted cover with imprinted glossy geometric patterns, just gorgeous packaging overall.
The packaging for the Misted Muppet album is as fantastic as the music really like how this fully fits with the theme of the release.
Cosma's Non-stop was a nice fully featured package with just about every extra possible. Great job!
Going back a bit, the vinyl release of Sandman's Witchcraft is almost a poster-size print of Alex Grey's art, full of small details when one examines it closely (something you probably couldn't do with the CD).
...and there's plenty more.

I totally agree with basilisk about the Phinalizer album.

Another very catchy Comp is 'Evolution' by Third Eye records. It has a brilliant explosion of colors banded to serve a purpose. The little Nataraj figure is enveloped within its own cosmic energy, and the White light Projecting from its forhead is no doubt the Powerful third Eye vision.

the Comp "Psi Trance Explosion II" by YSE is also pretty original. They have combined another Shiva-nataraj figure but have modified it in the japanese Anime style. Those japanese cartoons with the funky robots!! incorporating the energy bands slidin around. Nice!!! Like some Eastern Jedi!

^ very cool... AP Records art has been really nice on most recent releases. They've had some vinyl singles out with really great graphics that I don't think many people get to see (since they don't buy the vinyl).
