The review:
I just got it and didn't find a review here so here's my take on this.
Track 1: We start off with oldtimer Deedrah, and he feeds us a nice song with one of his trademark fat basslines. It builds up to a melodious finale with lots of keychanges in the bassline, making the endresult sound a lot like some of Protoculture's tracks, and this is no bad thing. Solid opener. I like the padsounds underneath near the end as well.
Track 2: Elec3 at it, and you know these guys always deliver these massive sounds and come up with a stomping finale in most tracks with one of those melodies that keeps returning in your head every now and then. This song is no different. In sound it's a lot like their other tracks ofcourse and a whole album of this sound would get boring pretty fast I imagine, but it sits very well here. Good track.
Track 3: Manmademan is something you have to be into. I find them too minimal at times and this song is no different. It starts off kinda nice but starts to plod around the 3 minute mark and you expect it to take off once more which just never happens. A shame really. Average at best.
Track 4: Triptych at it and this is a bouncy funky melodious track, as are most of his tracks. The song has a lot of breaks and changes quite a few times so it's not really all that coherent. Still, it manages to interest me throughout and the finale is great stuff. Nice track.
Track 5: One of the more standard songs here, quite a nice one but not really anything special. Quite a strong kick and bassline and some nice melodies, but as I said, very standard. Sits well here though, so no bad words to be mentioned about this.
Track 6: Tikal gives Talamasca's song the remix treatment. Don't know the original myself, but this is a bouncy little track with lots of chanting samples in it. Now that's not totally my thing as most people here will probably know, but I kinda like this track nonetheless. It manages to get a kind of trancy feeling about it and it sits well here because in sound this is a little different again than the tracks before. Ok track.
Track 7: Alright, a really melodious driving track is next. Haven't heard from this act before, but it's kinda nice. Good strong melodies and a recurring theme. Besides that it's pretty standard, but I find this to be a good track nonetheless.
Track 8: Starts off mellow with a nice padsound. It stays mellow with soft sounds, a lovely melodious song which would sit nicely in any morningset. Not worldshattering, but nice nonetheless.
Track 9: Orion is at it. Nice swirling melodies like what you're used to from Jean. The song uses lots of echoing, and it sounds pretty fat (especially when on a big soundsystem, hehehe) and it's got some nice melodies as well. The samples from 'Wild Thing' by Tone Loc are pretty daft though, but it's sparsely done so it doesn't ruin the song. It finishes off this compilation quite well.
Conclusion: A good compilation with some nice full-on tracks. El Didion did a good job compiling this. There are no downers here for me save the Manmademan track, but even that one I listen to every time I play this, just for the diversity. All in all, good stuff. 8/10 from me here.
