Soooooo I am putting a live set together for exposure, but I don't know where to play to start out or to get booked somewhere. How do I get started doing this?
I have minimal funds to buy equipment, but I already have pretty much everything I need, so travel expenses would be the major thing.
All help much, much, appreciated.

Is there a psy/electronic music scene in your general vicinity? If so, start getting to know the organizers of the parties. once your live set is sorted, make a full length demo and use that to send to organizers you've contacted. A lot of small local psy scenes don't make any money and are dependent on volunteer work - offer to help them set up or whatnot if you can afford the time
Another option is to throw your own parties or assist in the organizing in some way so as to book yourself. However, organizing is no small matter and has an entirely different skillset than producing and performing
