When it comes to punk, there's only one thing for me - and that's Dead Kennedys
(although it may not be exactly what you're looking for)

I'm not an expert on SOIA, but maybe you'd like to check out Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies, G.B.H. or, of course, Exploited.

California Uber Alles

Holiday in Cambodia

Too drunk to fuck

G.B.H. - Sick Boy

I am not sure this qualifies as punk rock. I like it, so it's probably something else. More like sick new wave or something.
It's awesome, though, regardless of the style name.

Here is another one of my favorites (especially now, since it's about my back yard). Again, I am not sure about the style (again, for the same reason ). Is this what they call "post-punk" - a blend of rock and new wave?
Anyway, please let me know if I am off the mark here in terms of the genre - wouldn't wanna spam on your parade.

Nina Hagen is known as grandmother of punk.
(btw she has a track with sun project too )
She is quite prominent here .
And her daughter Cosma Shiva Hagen too, even involved in psytrance and a lot of stuff.

Then why is it that I like her?..

I honestly tried to listen to every track posted above, and the reaction was exactly the same I've had since the '80s: my body just physically revolts against it. I try to keep an open mind, but I really can not force myself to sit through more than a minute of this music. It's not a reflection on the quality of music or some kind of snobbism on my part. Some people go into anaphylactic shock from peanut butter; others go into cardiac arrest from chocolate – while there is nothing wrong with either of those treats. It’s something biological. The only time I could force myself to listen to punk rock songs all the way through was Offspring – and I have a feeling this is because they are fake, commercialized punk (much like Green Day too).

And yet I really like Nina Hagen. Strange, isn’t it?

I am not writing all this to put down your music, just communicating. And trying to understand. Are there several sub-genres there? Is there a different direction in punk that I may be OK with? That “New York” song – is it still punk, or is it more like strange new wave?

Punk is about energy ,this is why I love it ,the real punk attitude, against system and being real. And about saying the things other music mostly dont even wage to.
For example Rattenpisse is extremley underground, and new.A friend or fan of my rap project organizes often their shows so I got to know them, and I really love it.
Dead KEnnedys,Fugazi,Exploited,Sex Pistols etc is the very old league, sth totaly different for instance than Rattenpisse (btw one of the most funny names I ever heard lol) ..they are mor or less on index.
Offspiring Greenday etc is just lame to the lamest,it is not punk it is making each real punk angry as fuck or it is music for mtv kids or sth I dunno that has not much in common with punk music.
Nina is just a spiritual spirit with multiple facettes she is one of those living legends.I like her too,tbh the most do,musicians and artists.
And no you can always critisize as much as you want dear Maine Coon, you are welcome .
If I feel sth I will hear it anyways.
For example the Spermbirds tv is not that old stuff that I used to hear once, really 20 years ago .
I could not find anything real old from them, and the myspace page of them is commercialized.. I found them myself(their myspace page) after writing it here, and was dissappointed to me.
But the old albums are unforgettable- pieces of 20 seconds and lots of undescrible impressions.
Power, aggresion and humour ,that what I needed at my personal skater times.Their music was good for it.
Also very known is Black Flag another one maybe some of you will know.
But I do not hear them all,it was a chapter of my life and piece of the whole.
I do like Rattenpisse and the new extrme underground hardcore punk stuff though.
My own league even though I make 'rap' music,I was invited to perform on a punk festival with some of them.
I refused then but should happen again than I go for it.
Punks are cool guys.Real punks.Real honest and 'cool" & interersting.For me.They know what's good.

ps also yeah I think it is sth more like goth wave punk fusion .. the new york song..
her attitude is punk the music is wave and the overall impression maybe even a bit goth..i dunno that exactly lol but she has done thousands of songs with all posible styles.
You will find her name in punk for sure.          https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

Exactly the way I felt.
And about Offspring and Green Day – I am glad my sell-out detector still works.

Thanks for the explanation. I have friends who listen to punk rock since the ‘80s. I understand its appeal, especially if you listen to the lyrics. I just have some strange allergy to it. Really, I start feeling physically sick after a few seconds of listening to it. It’s almost some kind of a medical problem.

I have another question for you. In my mind, gabber is a natural extension of punk rock to electronic music. Maybe schranz too, I am not sure. Do you feel the same way?

;-) interesting comparison.
The most punk is not that 'complicated' music ( not all) we all know,
but I must confess there is music from the gabber or schranz which is not only fast but truely filled with complicated patterns and made psycedelic.
I made some expirience ,was once on a festival (fuck parade)performing on a track (for houres)and a few behind us was a gabba truck ,it was interesting to find out that it is not that dumb music as I always thaught before. Some tracks are as complicated as some made by psykovsky imo.
Still it is not my cup of tea(gabba).
But the energy is quite similar to punk, the guys are jumpling differently though
Peace

Generally speaking, I don't know a lot about Punk at all, because I've always had a little ambivalent feelings towards the Punk attitude due to personal experiences.

But Nina Hagen is really cool. An intelligent, creative and free-spirited woman she is. She's really famous in the German speaking areas of the world, so I'm not sure how much Punk there's left in her. It's kinda the same like with all bands that made it big (Die Ärzte for example). But probably it has to do with the fact that people get older and quieter and less uproaring. I don't know her music very well, I've always been more fond of her other activities.

TimeTraveller, you make Rap music? Link or STFU.

(PS.: There indeed is a lot of creative and technically very interesting Gabba/Hardcore music. Especially the one that is close to Breakcore. Historically, it's a dfficult chapter. It has always been some sort of outsider within electronic music, as it is so difficult to enjoy it That's why it has always been attracting lots of different and sometimes questionable groups of people. Hence the scene is not at all homogenic.)
