Hi guys, I'm the founder and editor of PsyTuts.
As Aciduss mentioned above, the idea behind PsyTus is to provide the community with easy to follow tutorials on psytrance production.
I'm taking all of the server costs, web design costs (I work in the real world as a web developer and designer) and maintenance costs on my behalf.
To give some background to who I am, my name is Peter Lehto. I was born in Finland, currently live in Cape Town. I've been a music enthusiast from since I can remember. I've been producing psytrance for 5 years and had the privilege to be taught by some of the finest producers in Cape Town.
I'm currently signed to Nexus Media and working on my debut album out at the end of 2011.
Anyways, I hope you like the tutorials we offer.
We aim to have at least 1 new production tutorial per week, bundled with album reviews, artist interviews and much more.

You guys Rock
Basic videos are always good. But more advanced ones with for exampel making a synth shot part in the song with it's synthesis, sampling and reverb as well as processing. Maybe some fx's on that to make it more interesting.
There are many things to cover, and for sure I like what you guys are doing for the community.
With good stuff and previews I think donations and small amount of membership or something like that wouldn't be any problem if the content is good.
If you guys have project files to download with the "lessons" in it you guys could do it like sonic academy but for Psy.

well like mad piper was saying that he had the privilege of being taught by some cape town producers. Some of those South African artists are really talented, and they definitely have their own sound which im sure didn't happen by pur coincidence. Not everyone has that opportunity to sit in a studio and watch another artist who writes similar music. So their is a lot to gain from hearing about how so and so does something that you weren't exactly aware of. Or perhaps needed that extra push in the right direction. I know the light bulbs have come on before when ive seen tutorials that have changed my entire way of working. But you are very much correct, a good mix is a good mix, but then again, a good mix to someone else may be horrible to a producer of another genre. Just a thought though. I do see your point.

yes you re right mate this is a great move from Mad Piper and if i can make a tutorial i will try to contribute too.
about eq and compression it s very tricky to do cause it depends a lot about the full mix, the source . |

Thank you all for your comments.
We do have a list of all the tutos we are thinking on making... if Peter is ok with it i can share it and you may add in any suggestion.
Thanks again for your vibes!
We want to cover most of the faqs around here, from the psysquelch to the arrangement issues. Always encouraging new producers to aim for their own sound. Perhaps the forum can become a place for more interesting discussion if we take the away the typical noobie tompics.
In tutorials i'll be writing you can expect a lot of straight forward directions on how to create particular sounds but also tips and tricks that will give you broad choice in soundcrafting.
Bare in mind that although many tutorials will be aimed for the beginner they will still need little understanding of basic audio concepts.
--
About the mixing of psytrance tutorial... i've something like this in mind but as it has been said there is no easy recipe for this subject. Great and detailed books have been written on this, you guys better start there.
A simple guide on how to think to better mix psytrance is something doable I'll keep it in mind guys.

yea, mixing is something that comes over time I understand. But certain things like panning various elements to creat space, high passing percussive elements, which elements commonly sit in the midrange frequency, are all things that would have been handy to know without digging. I know its kind of lazy sounding, but to have all of this in one source would be pretty kickass. Or even show shortcuts around overprocessing a certain sound. Dubstepforum have a dubstep production bible which doesnt have a cut and dry formula, but it gives some pretty kick ass tips by some very knowledgeable artists.
Kind of like this:
http://www.noizebusters.ch/blog/?p=241&_login=4706385f11
Or you can even create a loop and pull it apart to kind of show how you got there. Madpiper, any chance you could get any of these South African producers create a tutorial for it? I know Xatrik has his production class online now, but I just don't have the money for it! Anywho, kudos again for this! Can't hardly wait 30 days for this! The site has already been bookmarked.

huge respect for this guys.
Its trully amazing to see people share knowledge in our largely "competitive" and suspicious times...
Artists tend to believe that transfering knowledge to others will only make things bad for their "career".
Personally, i see no future in music production, since I have to have a regular job in order to survive regardless of how many parties i will be performing at. This makes my life more difficult than fun and quitting isn't a rare thought for me...
However, seing artists share and help each other, always make me more optimistic about the so called "psytrance community". At the end of the day, personal perception and talent will make the difference. All the rest are just techniques and vst's. |

Thanks you for all the positive feedback!
Thanks Aciduss for posting the list that we are chipping away at, it's a big boy.
I must agree with PoM and Aciduss, mixing is something you learn over the years as your ear develops. We'll obviously post mixing tutorials and techniques to help this process.
If you're interested in writing one of the tutorials from the list please get in contact with me: madpiper [at] gmail.com , I can give you some guidelines and tips.
Also, if you have an Album, EP coming out and would like it to be reviewed or featured please get in contact with me.
