Hello friends.
I've the fortune to be participating along with other user of this community to bring to you the upcoming site: http://www.psytuts.com
We pretend no more than give back to community and share our knowledge. Personally I like to write and and share what has taken me around 5 years to achieve and develop.
Even I have no released tracks and still have A LOT to learn myself my sonic skills are getting better everyday and finally I can do most of the thing I've always wanted to know how and would like to tell you guys how.
In my experience psytrance crafting is a lot about music, sound technique, workflow and little tricks that make the difference...
We want to give a nice looking portal with relevant info for psytrance prod. in specific containing everything from basic info to advanced complex stuff.
So... the site will be ready in a month or so, you can check up the counter in the meantime.
==========================================
We are taking in ANY SUGGESTION / REQUEST
for consideration. Please feel free to ask
whatever you think it should be there on the
site to help aid the producer community.
=========================================
THANK YOU! |

A tutorial on various compression and mixing techniques that the pros use would be a god sent! I never understood this, you can find TONS of tutorials on how to mix dubstep, house, and minimal techno, but NOTHING about psy, even how "insert big name blandstep artist here" makes his woob woobs. Nothing in the psy genre. I guess thats what makes it all so original and fresh sounding. =)

Hi guys, I'm the founder and editor of PsyTuts.
As Aciduss mentioned above, the idea behind PsyTus is to provide the community with easy to follow tutorials on psytrance production.
I'm taking all of the server costs, web design costs (I work in the real world as a web developer and designer) and maintenance costs on my behalf.
To give some background to who I am, my name is Peter Lehto. I was born in Finland, currently live in Cape Town. I've been a music enthusiast from since I can remember. I've been producing psytrance for 5 years and had the privilege to be taught by some of the finest producers in Cape Town.
I'm currently signed to Nexus Media and working on my debut album out at the end of 2011.
Anyways, I hope you like the tutorials we offer.
We aim to have at least 1 new production tutorial per week, bundled with album reviews, artist interviews and much more.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll get in contact with Cosmosis and see if he is interested in doing a tutorial / interview for PsyTuts.

imo there is no specific way of mixing electronic music ,well balanced mix is well balanced, dnb, techno and sometimes psytrance.
it s more the work on the source and samples used that are different, but eq and compression it s the same.
you would see some 'pro' artists working they do nothing special ,they might know less technics and theorie than most of the guys around here, it s all in the trials and errors,hard work.
but tutorials really help offcourse to show new technics and stuff like this but for pure mixing not really imo cause it s more about hearing and taste. |

well like mad piper was saying that he had the privilege of being taught by some cape town producers. Some of those South African artists are really talented, and they definitely have their own sound which im sure didn't happen by pur coincidence. Not everyone has that opportunity to sit in a studio and watch another artist who writes similar music. So their is a lot to gain from hearing about how so and so does something that you weren't exactly aware of. Or perhaps needed that extra push in the right direction. I know the light bulbs have come on before when ive seen tutorials that have changed my entire way of working. But you are very much correct, a good mix is a good mix, but then again, a good mix to someone else may be horrible to a producer of another genre. Just a thought though. I do see your point.
