Why do u think the people here doesnt conect to this music? is it because they dont know about it maybe?

brother, when the day comes that trance parties are humongous and commercial, attended by people who have no idea what the spirit of GOa is all about, you will start yearning for the 'good old days' when no one know about the scene.

Don't take the fact that it is unknown to mean that it is a 'weak' scene.

It has it's pockets of support, but I agree, it isn't very common.

I think to understand why the trance scene is so rare in America we have to look back in history to the last scene that shared similar values. Yep, the hippies. Love 'em or hate 'em, they were a huge effect on the goa scene as we know it. About in the late 70's this country got pretty fed up with them, especially the conservatives who felt VERY threatened by their ideals. Laws were passed, chemicals were demonized, media was controlled. I'm not claiming a huge conspiracy as much as I am a natural social phenomenon - we overreacted to them.

We, as a nation, are still in a period of negative reaction to the "tree huggers" and they're ideals of peace, community, and love. Trance, with similar themes, is still too familiar of those damned dirty hippies.

But give it some time, give us some time. Time to forget, time to cool off. It'll be back.

And when it becomes cool to be peaceful again, those pockets of goa heads, which have been spreading like so much mycelium over the country, will fruit into something

HUGE.

Peace,

IMHO the US is a huge country With an incredible variety of cultures. It takes a huge effort to culturally penetrate this country. The first to open ofcourse are the port cities: NY, SF, LA. Also places where freaks and open minded ppl ready for new mind altering experiences. There is a tradition of this all accross the west coast, and parts of the east coast.

The seed has been planted, there are information centers for ppl to network, build and exchange ideas. There are US artists fueling world class sounds + absolutely amazing DJs. So the inspiration to build has been stablished and with no doubt with the spirit the US has been built, the best of the psy trance scene here is yet to come, and it will be colosal

I might get slapped by this, but also the US is not as social as other countries in Europe, Israel or parts of Asia. Most cities are built for a complete different function (like work and consume) and socializing is something in the order of a priviledge. It is hard for ppl to gather since distances are huge and ppl have constanly conflicting schedules. To gather it takes planning and much effort, where in other coutries you just walk to the street and everyone is there.

Anyway, its my two cents from a European who have lived in the US for 15 years

welcome to Portland! Psy-trance here is very underground and non-comerical..but it does happen!

Yes, it is very different than Isreal where
%75 of the young people (age 20-30) have been to Goa. here much less than 0.1% have ever been!

many of the psychedelic people in the USA here are into rock music, outdoor bluegrass festivals, burning man, playing drums - and they aren't aware that there is a psychedelic underground of dance music..they only know about club and fashion ....

enjoy it while it's underground....and here you have a chance to MAKE it happen...where in places like Goa/Isreal/Japan the scene is established and comercialzed/mafiazed

there are many large events in your part of the US. Acctually you are in the best place for it. This summer we have Shakta, Angel Tears, Psy-Craft, Vileot Vission, Michele Adamson, Loopis in fabula, Penta, and a few more I am forgetting just now all playing live all outdoors & under the stars. The scene is growing but will never be above ground in the US. Too many people like POP music here. Comes from watching to much TV. anyway check out this

Like the dude said, a seed has been planted, exsactly. Trust me a psytrance scene will start to grow. I must disagree that most psyheads here in the us listen to rock. personally before psytrance i mostly listened to heavy underground rap, hip hop, old school stuff like the doors etc. anyways, psytrance will grow like a virus in the us.
