Psicho - I reccommend & let me not understate this(bcoz it changed my understanding of music & effects) David Gibsons visual guide 2 mixing. PM me if u want details on where 2 get this. I reccommend buying this book, the author is not only a mixing engineer with craploads of experience but also an educator with a highly intuitve approach 2 understanding what the effects of effects are... essential read.A crapload of raw super-useful musical insight.
The difference with this book is that u will know EXACTLY why compression is used, & gates, & reverb & eq. not filtered through the opinions of non educators. Sorry no insult intended to Anyone, just being honest.
If ur intention was to ask people about specific recipes on cool gimmicks in songs then I misread ur question.

Entry, Outro Fx with Delay

Export at synth sound that has a long delay tail , put the locators around 2-4 boxes longer than the sound itself, when bouncing , bounce WITH the delay .
Now you have it in wave , reverse the sound . This is great for numerous of places .

1/8T
this is great for breaking down tracks , also just to use on single boxes . Or to build complete tracks .
i just found out of this 3 months ago , and ive been trying manually to do it for a period just as long .
In cubase it is as simple as , highlight the boxes u wanna quant. press the setting 1/8 t , hit Q and voila , a nice new tempo or a crazy eskimo efx . if ur are coming from a "normal" 4/4 then remember to change the delays in the edited area , or it will sound strange . here is a little sample .

@Rishi: This is great! I never thinked to create the breaks in 1/8T...
A trick like yours would be to make the tempo go half-time in the break, the bass sounds very nice in that mood
(it could be done in reason too by doubling the scale of the interested part)
About the delay trick in the reverse I never thinked about it but seems interesting, I will try!

Seems there are some really nice tricks & tips to learn, hope this topic will continue in this direction

yeah! It's the only way - really surprise both the dancers and head-trippers by experimenting and doing things so surreal they blow peoples minds!

You can find a really powefull tool mastering in http://www.har-bal.com/

"Har-Bal leaves the initial volume level unchanged even after performing spectral correction thanks to its "loudness compensation" technology.

Har-Bal allows you to easily tidy up the sound quality of mastered or un-mastered recordings while preserving the original intent of the producer and/or recording engineer. Our newly created algorithm named IntuitQ allows Har-Bal to predict Optimal EQ without using any reference files. It analyzes your track and designs a harbalized filter that is near perfect."

BUT you don't need use this soft only as mastering tool. You can come up with new sounds with Har-Bal. I used this tool in some samples and the results were terrific. For instance, I got a Astrix's kick as a sample and another kick I really like as reference. I used Har-Bal and voilá, the result was an Astrix's Kick mofified and absolutelly different and still very very powefull. You can use on other samples (pads, effects etc.). Great creative tool for me.
