Reverb, is my super super important effect. You can do so much with it...
But be subtle... having reverb tails mixing with eachother and also having them e.q.d badly only leads to a seriously muddy mix.
Use reverb intelligently to enhance the right sounds for the right places.

Bitcruncher on the master or any other channel also gives a good effect (automating the aliasing and keeping the bit depth at the max). |

@orange: Thanks that's a cool effect Anyway I would ask you the order of the effects and what vst do u use? (I have Ableton and seems that the internal vst don't have the requested parameters)
@e-motion: what is bitcruncher and what it does? Can you give some parameters of your tweak please?

a bitcrucher reduces the bits of an sample, so it gets lofied - e.g before 16 bit sample after bitcrucher less e.g 8 bit or 7 bit or any number of bits between 1 and 16

The bitcrusher is included with cubase in the 'other' section of the VST menu.
The way it works is by reducing the bit depth by the value specified... so division by one 2 3 4 etc...
Can lead to some seriously interesting effects if you use it on the right initial sounds, including formant-like sounds (because of the Nyquist Theorem)

Play with it and find out...
Realise the sound you like instead of us telling you what to do with it!

I know I can just play and find out but I cannot explain what is really happening and why is happening..

ah.. heh
Well... a couple of commonly used bitcrusher examples:
1. BitCrusher over highpassed kick and bass - gradual automation of bit depth creates an ascending or descending pitch as the sound becomes either more or less destroyed
2. BitCrusher over whole mix - does the same as above except includes all sounds.
3. BitCrusher on leads - adds very digital sounding grain and accentuates and 'crispens' highs if on mode I or III, and dulls the highs while making the sound muddier/grainier with settings II or IV
4. (is my little secret )

Agreed...
pitch bent delays, distorted delays, ping-pong delays, hi/lowpassed delays, increasing resonance delays, LFO'd delays... They're all in there somewhere

MetaFlanger is suuuupah! - automating feedback width and mix can also lead to some tremendous (but none the less indescribeable) results...
Btw forgot to mention in delays list:
Reverb feedback delays,
Band Passed delays,
'bouncing ball' delays (think they're called that - where the echo gets quicker and quicker)
Reverse delays
Reverbed delays

Get a sample and fade it in so it becomes one of those "transition" samples used to introduce a change in a track.
Get the same sample without the fadein. Reverse, make it one note lower and than fade it out. Than insert silences on several locations so that the sample has sort of "chopped up" effect.
Put some reverb and chorus on it and you have a really nifty transition sound. |
