Here is my idea. I would like to start some topics about the psytrance production tips. I saw already threads about basslines, leads and kicks but I would like to have more threads talking about the production of a part of the music like sequences, effects, breaks, intros & outros.

The first thread will talk about effects. I would like to see a thread with a list of effetcts that you use in your productions.

The post should contain the following informations:

1. Title of the effect
2. What sounds to you tweak (beats, bass, lead)
3. Where do you use it (break, intros, etc)
4. What effects do you use
5. How do you tweak it (parameters, automation)
(6. If you can post a sound )

Here is one of mine as an example:

1. High Pass Filter on Beat+Bass
2. I use to tweak the beat (kick & hats) & the bass
3. I use it when the beat should restart
4. I just use a high pass filter (created with two eq's)
5. I start with a high filter freq and decrease it until 0 (the end of the effect). I use to move the resonance to create a fx-pad effect too.
6. I don't have a sound sample for this but you can find it in a lot of songs..           --

In the search I didn't find anything like this. If there is already something like this please post me the link!

Anyway I think this could be a nice topic as I will continue to post other effects that I use (as vocoders and so on)...           --

hey orange-atropa u sound like a smartass, a guy who really knows his stuff ! If you you are so good with search function why don't you post some links instead of acting like a clown. I hate this kind of attitude mate, better don't say anything, or if you decide to show off at least post something useful along with your bullpies.

Psicho:

1) You can and should use every effect possible. Examples of some common effects are Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Distortion EQ, Filters etc...

2) Basically you may tweak any sound you like it really depends from you and what you want to show in your music. You can apply effect to drums, leads, rhytm patterns and even bass sometimes, be careful with bass though!

3) Again you can use em anywhere you like

4) You can use all effects but usually I use common effects that are listed in 1.
However, before working with effects I suggest you to be done with solid arrangement. Why? To conserve your CPU and your dedication to a project.

5) How do I tweak? Well it really depends from the case and what I wanna do. Let's say, I can accent a note by increasing reverb time on a particular note or notes. or let's say I can use use LFO modulation on some notes of the riff. It all depends from your creativity and your imagination. Do whatever you feel like to do, trust your senses and I believe you should do just fine.
Listen to your favorite psy trance act and see where and why they use those automations and you should get the picture.

Take care

no need to appologize mate, just think of it this way:
when you were n00b, you were asking same questions and most people took their time answering you, right? even though they have been discussed over and over on those boards. Even today when you post something, I don't think you would like to see a reply similar to yours.
take care

well talking to fx reverb is the most important for the overall mix placing the sound.
Delay in combos is one of my fav.
I like having a long delay into an element and feeding with automated compressor to make it longer very common fx and oldschool i guess..
I also like to put distortion/saturation to my already boosted in 1000hz leads, that make the sound crackles

I also like some stuff from smart electronics team that i use in my premaster chanel that fucks the sound for sure

dear frequency you should first hear his sound before you answer to him as he was a beginner, am i right max...?

he has a good production and if he does this kinda topic is because he wants new idea on how to apply effects in a different manner than what you can hear in CD's you buy.

what he wants as an answer is the exact procedure and values of parameters of your production, as he in fact asked, and in my opinion would be useful to respect the points and order he given for the answer form

bye people guess you'll soon hear from him

@zafer: Yep that's what I was talking about, I think that sharing some musical widsdom isn't a bad thing and I wanted to do it in a more elaborate way..

@ana3imandros : Talking about the combo delay. Where do u use to fix it and how? I never understood why a delay should pan in differents tempos and I always pan the delay in the center...

Anyway I'm just want to share the informations to create a sort of database of psytrance production tips & tricks, the one that doesn't exists anywhere but everybody would like to see (I guess even the pro's).

Here is another one I'm trying to make, mabye somebody could help me out:

1. Chrous/Flanger Effect
2. The whole song to have a break effect
3. Before a break or in the ending of a break
4. Chorus/Flanger (I made this in Reason and it's a unique device, don't know if it changes)
5. I start with a low delay (13) and a feedback at -13 then I raise the delay and feedback to the maximum until the end of the effect.

(the CF-101 is in send mode, Idon't know what it changes..)

6. http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0FME0OUUI5NFA248NE6ZGVDLYA

The fact is that this effect doesn't really sounds how it should be. Somebody know how to do it? (in a general way, it doen't need to be the Reason way)

Another effect that I post is a body joke made with Scream distorsion unit in Reason. Mabye it could be emulated in another way? (Sorry it's been made a bit fast)

1. Body Joke + Panning
2. The Whole Song
3. In the end of a break, start of a beat
4. Scream Distorsion Unit (I use only the Body, mabye somebody that used Reason knows a vst similar to it..)
5.
Panning: Simply automate the master pan controllers
Body Effect:
The resonance is always high (105) but jumps up and down to create effects in 1/4 tempo
The Scale starts @127 and gets to 55 jumping sometimes in 1/4 tempo up and down
The Auto goes up and down but keeps the most of time to 0.
In the end of the effect (before the start) the bybass button is switched on/off

well i am using panning delay to give more space to the mix, also to give more the sense of the effect and makes it more aggressive.
About combos, meaning if a delay plugin has a resonance and feedback with it a good material make it sounding more metallic. Then you can take each dealy line or hit and play with it more, reverse it etc.
I usually use bionic delay,Psp84(it has resonance) kai dfx buffer override

1-lost in space
2-whole mix
3-at the end of the break just before the melody
4-filter+flanger+reverb+stereo expander
5-automate all the wet controls from 0-to full (exept filter high pass from 0-35%)reverb must have synced predelays and at just 1/4 before the end all wet controlers must go back to 0
