I comprehend what NoFe is saying by which I feel that I have to agree with him in a way. I think that music is growing so much, so many different styles that are being incorporated into other genres (whatever they may be). Soon enough we will start seeing the diamonds in the rough by the variety which is open to the eye.

Thing is, music cannot die, the only thing that dies is our enthusiasm and capability to enjoy it.
The drive and energy of the music does not change, we do.
We get stuck in that judging mind, "meh heard that, done that, seen that" comparing what we are experiencing right now with what we have experienced before, and when you do that, you are not really here now.
And psytrance is all about being here now.
Get out of that mind, learn to hear and appreciate the music like this moment right here right now is the first time you have ever heard.
Remember those first few parties, that blew your mind and soul? It was not the music that did that, it was you.
And i'll bet you weren't thinking at all about "hmm this sounds like an astrix ripoff.. this bassline is lame... omg that lead is sooo cheesy"... you were too busy tripping balls and talking with the universe, dancing away on the flow of life.
Don't let that die, its up to you yourself.

one thing i know from myself is:
people start to think a music is dying when it is developing in a way that they dislike.. a musical genre takes turns once in a while.. like goa trance evolved into progressive and psy trance, neo full on and so on... every time some people don´t want to follow the direction change because they think something will be lost (which seems fairly logic if you like a specific style for it´s particular attributes and then they change)..
what i experienced is, psy will always grow, maybe the mass of music won´t be your style and a party with nice music can be harder to find, but: psy is sooooooo versatile.. search and you will always find something in this melting pot of genres.. do not only look for trends but for constants in the genre and dig deeper! there is so much good music around that you should not bother about the stuff you dislike.. and maybe sometimes changes you dislike now become your favourites in the future ;-) |

i guess the next big step is with surround sound technology. Sounds that fly around your head and into your one ear and out the other.
It is not old, or behind, or dead. Its in progress of development. your imagination is the boundry.

Thats actually not true at all..seasonality/periodic variation is a real phenomena but don't confuse cyclicality with seasonality..
cyclicality is almost always our brains finding patterns that are not really there because our brains suck when it comes to permutation .
A more accurate statement is the only thing that is universal is that entropy/disorder is always increasing in an isolated system until it finds equilibrium..equilibrium is not a good thing in this case, it means to find new information and increase disorder further becomes harder and harder as time passes..
Psytrance isn't dead, but you have to be a fool to believe it doesn't take ever increasingly more energy for an artist to find something new today than it did 5 years ago...at ever diminishing returns..The rub is its not going to get easier, its only going to get harder and harder.
If you think psytrance is dead today you should stop listening, because its only going to seem more and more dead to you 5 years from. |

Watching tv the other day made me think about how funny it is that one medium (tv/movie/etc) reuse plots or scenes from old movies/tv shows and we enjoy it. However, when we do this with music, it gets shunned...
