…at least for me.
I loved old Goa, although I thought the spawned subgenres had their moments too - prog, tech, minimal and "old" full on. Then some people decided "Hey, let's all use the same bassline in all our tracks!" Don't ask me why, but I know I didn’t like it.
At the end of 2003 I thought this was the worst year ever in psytrance (in music quality/originality). For 2004 I've hardly heard anything, although there is more released than ever it just seem to be less and less variation. Are there any actual ORIGINAL psytrance coming out any more? I guess there may still be a few, but they seem to get fewer all the time.
I think it’s not long before psytrance will have pop vocals and all of a sudden a track will be on the “top (pop?) charts” (or whatever they are called. You know what I mean.) Perhaps there is no point trying to stop this either, maybe it’s just natural evolution of music or something.
Anyway there is one good thing about this. Before I was just “hooked” on psytrance, but now I’m turning over to a lot of other genres. All I can say is, there is a lot of other good music out there too that I didn't even know about before. Other than this is also a clarification why I don’t visit these forums so much anymore (if anyone even noticed, I guess not )
If you want please give me your opinions about this subject.
Do you think does psytrance still have a chance? If so, please explain why.
See you in the Chillout Zone

A big maybe...
but I'd like to think so.
can you really predict? we can only hope for things to happen. Actually quite alot ppl are really happy at the moment and don't hope for anything - just enjoying what there is. Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

the good thing about crappy releases is I save a lot of money cause there isn't much impressive released nowadays.
on the other hand, I don't go to parties anymore but still love to mix some tunes on my own. psytrance has changed.. so I must agree with goblim . but it isn't dead, we're just evolving in our own personal way...
put on your stylish clothes and make yourself a fresh and tasty fruitjuice while listening to 'Hi-Fi Companions' and forget all this bullshit.
just enjoy life

ppl take it easy! I love posts like Goblim's with explosive statements announcing the death of musical geners. if I had a shekel for each time I heared that Rock/Punk/Industrial/Metal/Trance was dead I'd be rich beyond my wildest dreams.
this issue has been discussed many times b4 and still it appears everytime theres a dissillusioned trancer out there who has not been getting his usual dose of exitment from the music he's getting.
music is an evolving thing. u cant really say where and when it starts and its very hard to predict it's destination. all u can do as a listener is browse through the gerenes, find the one's u like and enjoy the ride.
ask yourself - why did u start listening to trance? why did u love it? why did u become hooked on it?
my view is that once the NOVELTY has faded and the edge has been blunted it is harder and harder to get to that level of exitment u had as a new trance lover. its like drugs - eventually u end up chasing the dragon.
lets consider the musician's point of view - how easy is it to do something ORIGINAL do u think? how easy is it to make a bass line that has never been done before? I'll tell u how - IMPOSSIBLE!!! as impossible as writing a rock song that will not remind something that has been already done. thats life, thats music and thats the way art is in general - originality and quality are rare commodities and u better exept that or u will find your self dissapointed too many times from everything beginning with food and ending with relationships....
I have been a music lover for 20 years (whoahhh thats a long time...) and over the years I have loved many generes and I can safely say that the only thing certain in music is that it is changing all the time. sometimes what changes is not the music but yourself and your perception of it. I have weeks that all I get is mediocre music which tickles me very little, and I have weeks like this week where i get music of such quality that I am amazed by it. I have been into trance for 9 years and no othere genre does to me what trance does. no matter how i try I dont fing music that moves me as much as trance does. i cant forget that.
we trancers are a bit hipocritical/schisophrenic in our approach - on the one hand we like to consider ourselves as the elite music listeners in the world, we are the ones listening to the most cutting edge music being made today. and in the same breath we hate the arsim who love this music just as much as we do.
on one hand we like our scene to be small and underground but we do everything we can to persuade ppl to listen to this crazy music and when we succeed and more and more ppl love it and join the community we get angry cuz it getting to big....
we love to go to small parties and feel the vibe and know that u we are so unique and yet we feel so proud when an infected clip is shown on TV.
so my point is - dont burry the cat just yet - it has 9 lives and each life is different.

i think that music always get another way in scene, always have the "pop" scene, but ALWAYS will exist the artists that really like, and make, some ORIGINAL stuff and don't care if it'll be a BOOM for the ppl.
we have to respect this guys that is always trying to be different and good at the same time.
cheerz!

I completely agree with you Goblim. It just doesn't interest me anymore. I personally think all the new folks are the ones supporting this "new" style... Cause I really don't see how an old trancer could feel impressed with 95% of the new stuff.
Listen to chill and/or experimental.. You'll find new ground there. |

I think you're over-reacting...
Psytrance, is the less commercial scene I ever saw (which means nothing, but if you think psy lack creativity, guess what you'll find out there...).
I like all lots of musical genres, psytrance is a good one, specially to dance and trip (I'm not talking about drugs). I think there's lots of new good stuff out there.
Maybe you need to chill out a little, and try to open yourself for new stuff.

Yes. Listen to the FREq album and tell me that psychedelic trance is dead.
I think it is good that you are exploring other genres, but I don't think it should take finding a genre dead to venture outside of it.

there are labels and artists which still release good stuff...but the problem is that they aren't "mainstream" anymore...coz most of the labels we once knew that released stuff everyone loved are now releasing formula based full on...on that note I think you just need to dig a little bit deeper, and check out other trance shops besides psyshop...
I'm going to say that I still very much enjoy most of the stuff that gets released..I enjoy reviewing it and dancing to it, and that's coz I don't look at it in comparison with the music that was released say...3 years ago...it's another thing now and it's gonna be another thing in 2-3 years
the only thing that gets me pissed off are those israeli pop trance releases....tracks like 7th son from sub6...or some of those infected tracks with vocals, that one where duvdev copies the firestarter from prodigy...or those nirvana, prodigy etc..remixes...that's the stuff that really...and I mean really pisses me off...it's pop music, it's not innovative at all and it's just there so people can make money and get on those top10 charts...it makes me wanna puke...if you wanna worry about something on this scene...then worry about that...about some "baybe I want you lay you down tonight" samples in full on and some remixes where the only thing remixed is the bassline
