You know the difference?
How does it feel in your town? If an outsider ventured to a party in your town, how do you think they'd perceive it, scene or community?

In my town (Marina, CA) there really isn't that much of stuff going on. We throw shows once or twice a year but for the most part I go to SF to have my fun... And for me that is definitely a community rather than a scene.
Here in the Monterey area, there are a few tight knit friends that come together to help put on the shows that we do. Most of my friends that live down here don't even go to any other shows except for the ones we do out in the forest.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I fell in love with the community aspect of our area (LA) and that feeling remains, but at times we have the Avalon gigs and some of the new ones coming in with their enormous egos to "leave their mark" and pump up our "scene", then move on (as if we need assistance being trancers or something)......When things like that happen, it so becomes a scene and in my opinion is somewhat faceless, not tight knit and "family" like as it should be...Again, my opinion.

However, I feel if I am patient and allow things to transpire, our community will be whole again.....

Maybe I am trippin, but that's how I feel.

In my town (Detroit) its neither a 'scene' nor a 'community'. Its a JOKE !!!

There like only 2,3 people i know who listen to Psytrance regularly, and our partyin revolves around a Home studio !!

Here is FL we are a family that is constantly travelling all and about. We are few but strongly connected... and we thrive in this "The Land of the tropical Freaks"

SO ppl come and go, and sometimes, as a cosmic instant, we all manage to arrive @ the same time and point in space and have some memorable landmark moments, that will last for a lifetime. One of this moments will be on Friday... April's fools hehe It is going to be a rollercoaster ride.

I am part of the "community", so to speak, in both L.A. and Calgary, AB. I see that both cities have both a "scene" and a "community". I define "scene" as the parties and events that have psytrance music - they can attract many different demographics, depending on the venue and the promotions. The "community" is more of a core group of very dedicated psytrancers, many of which also contribute to the "scene" in some way, as promoters, sound, DJs, friends, artists, ect. As big as L.A. actually is, our psy scene and our community is fairly small, but it by far is the best group that I've had the pleasure of participating with. I've only been into electronica since 2001. In my very brief journey, I have experienced the "rave" scene, the "club" scene (ranging from the big clubs like Spundae & Giant, to smaller house clubs, Drum & Bass, Breakbeats, ect), the "burning man" scene, and the "Psytrance" scene. It is the psytrance scene that has the most real, genuine people, the ones who are in it because of the music FIRST, the best sense and feeling of "community", and the one scene where I feel I have found a "family" more than any other.
