i like good psychedelic goa like Australian style not that im expecting to find that kind of style here

Australian style eh? Yep, you're right, not much of that here. Some of us play that stuff though. It seems like there's only like 1 in 20 psy djs that ever spin neo-goa, suomi, or australian minimal psy, if that. Which equals about 7 or 8 djs in the US, haha. I'm sure there's some in the NY area, though I confess I have no idea who. Good luck finding what you want! You'll have to look harder, but it'll be more worth it when you find it. |

the full-on im looking for would be something more influenced by goa such as "hux flux" or "principles of flight" or such.
of course if there would be any "Soumi" parties I'd be glad but i'm pretty sure there aren't many if at all.
even pure psytrance is great.
no complaints.
not progressiveminimal or cluby full-on styles.

Yeah then you should DEFINITELY come check out the West Coast, ESPECIALLY Southern California. I think that you would LOVE our party scene AND the music.
Lots of pure, dark, tribal, goa to make your head spin. Most of the DJ's and Producers are leanings towards the styles you say you prefer. Full-On is a minority around here.

Looks like I need to come down there too then. Gonna be at the Mojave party next week, Kahn? You probably should meet me. |

I don't know if I'll be able to make that one. I'm sure going to try.
If not, I should definitely be at the next La Jolla party; and DEFINITELY the next Green Sector Woodley Park adventure.

Let me ask you a question... What exactly would you consider "non-commercial" full-on? I mean obviously somebody like Astrix would be considered mainstream. But even small time up and coming producers are making similar sounds in their productions; and I wouldn't consider many of these guys to be "mainstream" by any means. Is it this sound you are trying to avoid, or the names?
Are you really looking for full-on at all, or other types of psytrance entirely?
From my experience in the Southern California Psytrance scene, I can tell you that mainstream full-on is actually some of the HARDEST music to find. We do get some full-on from our locals (self included), and the occasional headliner at a club or large party; but usually we don't see this kind of stuff around here. Most of the Psytrance around here consists of "Pure Psytrance" (as the Trancers like to call it, but it definitely sits closer to "darkpsy" than other types, just might not actually be "DARK" emotionally), and of course Dark Psy. There is also a good amount of progressive and electro psy tech (or whatever you want to call the new wave of progressive).
If you're trying to avoid mainstream Psytrance sounds, and going more for the harder, tribal, and deeper sounds, you would definitely enjoy a trip out to the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, and attending a party by Psytribe or others by association.
New York, and probably San Francisco in second, gets the most mainstream full-on Psytrance from what I've seen browsing through party lineups on this forum. So while you might be unhappy with the stuff you're seeing around NYC, I'm actually quite envious, since I personally prefer the more mainstream sounding full-on. But rest assured, if you ever make the trip out to Socal, you will find a completely different set of music at most of our psy festivals. Although, don't be surprised if you still see one or two DJ's playing Full-On in the morning.

You are so jaded by this melodic crap, Kahn...
Maybe one of these days you can examine your mind through a dark trance filter...
you don't trip much... huh?

"melodic" and "crap" should never be used in the same sentence. shame on you =P |

This is a PM I sent to Kahn:
"Hey man...
You know what...?
I have been feeling bad about my posts for a while now...
I respect your point of view. I may have been a little twisted when I wrote those short and unthoughtful posts. I may have went a little too far.
That's why I tried to say that I wish you would come to Philly and party and maybe we could get to know each other.
You are correct. I was a little un-intelligent with the way I presented my opinions.
I feel like I made an ass out of myself and I attacked you for no reason.
The only reason that I lashed out is because I am so tired of hearing this full-on vs dark arguement and I don't think that some level of melodic music is true psychedelic trance...
But i should have presented it in a better way.
I just don't like writing such a book on this forum. I would rather toss the ideas around as we sit and smoke by the fire or something.
You have my apologies..."
I guess that makes it not a PM, huh.

I have a feeling you could travel the country and get a completely different yet equally gratifying experience in all the regions. |

2nd that.
So what is there now? This should be fun.
Psytrance in the U.S., by region, city, or state. In all of the following there is some sort of "scene" happening.
L.A. (SoCal)
San Fran (Norcal)
Portland
AZ
Colorado
Texas
Mississippi/Missouri/Arkansas
Midwest (Iowa, Minnesota, WI, IL)
Atlanta
FL?
Asheville (North & South Carolina)
Ohio
Philly/DC/Baltimore
NYC
That's all I've heard/know about. Everyone can edit the list as they see fit. Sorry if I forgot anyone.
Yulp... seems like there's a lot of psytrance going on in the U.S.

well, there really isn't anything in Baltimore/DC trancewise. I used to spin at the awakening monthly but that just ended. There definitely is some blood in the Philly though.

I think it would be awesome if we had a festival where each region took a day and built a line up the way they do it. *cough*AUM*cough*
Thursday - Midwest All-stars
Friday - West Coast All Stars
Saturday - New England All-Stars
Sunday - The south Rises again (ATL, NC, TX, MO) |

How the heck would you make it to all of those at once? Might it be cooler to have them all at the same time on the same night (United in dance across great distance)?

I don't understand the problem?
4 day party. Each night is handled by the locals from that region. Host region takes the first night and provides the sound. Could make it even more interesting by having each region do their own deco for that day. |
