Hello, I have a budget about 10.000$ and I would like to buy psytrance gear this week.
So I would like to sugest me what equipment to buy for.
However the only things I have right now is a 3,06ghz Pc with windows XP , Reason 3, Cubase sx 2 and from hardware the Novation KS-4.
Thank you in advance |

People will recommend different synths and such, but the thing that is going to make the biggest difference is really good monitors and acoustic treatment.
For that cash I'd go for Genelec 1032As. Best monitors I've heard (after the PMC BB5 which is well over your budget).
Also get an Eventide (Eclipse or Orville if you can afford it) effects processor for the best effects and also a Lexicon PCM for the best lush reverbs.

anill: if you don't exactly know what to buy, don't spend all your bucks at once. start little and then after learning this gear, you can make educated guesses about what you really need. and most important: it's the experience that will give you great tracks, and that cannot be bought. so i'd suggest to start little and gain experience and work your way up! i didn't mean to offend you, i hope you did not misunderstand my post
all the best! |

anill, you're welcome. happy to help if i can
i'd suggest you buy the small (SE 3) or medium (SL 3) version of cubase, it's possible to upgrade later to SX 3, if you need. then buy some monitors, they are very important to make you feel confident about what you produce and hear exactly what you do. the fostex pm-1 are quite nice for their price. and other ppl here surely can suggest other good monitors too. also get an audiocard, rme is nice, i don't suggest to buy m-audio (some of their devices sometimes used to crash because of transients in the power line caused by other devices, and the support may ignore you completely). then you need some midi keyboard with maybe some controller pots and/or faders, and some buttons, to play your synths. and now buy any hardware or software synth you like (for sw, test all the trial versions). now work much with this small setup to learn it well and then you will get the idea what you need to buy next. (for example some other synths, or a fx plugin pack and later some pre-mastering plugin set). also be sure to check out kvr audio for many good freeware synths and fx plugins.
hope this helped, all the best |

synths usually can be used for many different music styles, of course for psytrance also. but maybe you shouldn't buy it right now, instead try software synths for a while and then decide to buy a hardware synth? of course, if you want, buy it right now, that's fine too |

You have a lot of cash. If you are serious about this (I assume you are if you are willing to splash out this way) the two things you are definitely going to need, be a novice or pro, are good monitors and acoustics. They are going to show you what synths/comps/pres/EQs...etc really sound like, so you can make better judgement.
I would probably get a Nord Lead/Modular/G2 simply because they are known workhorses in trance. I mean if you like trance music, you probably like the Nords. If you like older MWNN, Hallucinogen stuff, check some analogs like the sh-101, Pro-1, MS-10/20/50, Junos, Jupiters, ARP2600...etc.
Most new trance tunes sound a lot more plastik, than before, probably because (imo) everyone uses soft synths.
Start from there.

I agree with all of the above, just buy good monitors, Cubase sx 3 (and maybe the Cubase sx 3 intruction dvd's), some good reverb and mixing plugins and some good books on the basics of audio engineering and mixing and leave the rest of your money on the bank until you know what you need.
