On wikipedia it says that she sold 12 million copies from the album, who cares if that is 10 %, compare that to the max 500 copies sold in the average psy trance scene

This proves that producing psy trance is NOT a good way to make money and those that think it may be are delusional.

Just because we don't sell 12 million? Who needs that much money, average labels used to sell 1000 copies which was more than enough to pay your artists, cover, mastering, promotion, and have some money for them           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

If she sold 12 million copies, the number is less than 10%....I think we have more than 120million lady gaga listeners...

So, I think the problem is after internet, a new model of music selling need to be implemented, but anyone get how do this, and this include mainstream, superstars and psychedelic trance underground scene also...

I believe in a more close relationship between artists and listeners for the underground scenes...like psytrance...           www.psychowave.net

I'm a music producer, i release music, i don't give a shit about the money. I own a label..and i distribute music out of love. I work with artists that also work with artists that work with artists who do this for the art..if we get an occasional free dinner or smoke out of it, we are satisfied..

I'll stay broke and underground eating grilled cheese, but i'll sleep well at night knowing the community still loves me            WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. Or, more importantly, that you still do what you love and not what sells at the moment.

P.S. BTW, I don't have anything against people who manage to combine those two. More power to them then.

Got into this discussion rather late, but i have to comment on the resources needed to print up cd´s versus a pure digital distribution. Servers are resource demanding as well and so is the entire infrastructure necessary for said distribution. (how many kg´s/tons of copper/fibre does your music travel through before it reaches you? The energy demands on this system is way more resource demanding than most people realize i fear. I see another issue with regards to peoples playback systems. A power hungry dedicated cd player will probably not eat up more than 15-30 Watts MAX (minus what is needed for amplifying speakers) Any pc, laptop or desktop consume way more power doing the same job. Because of this i am not quite subscribing to the whole non physical thing being better for the planet. Power consumption and resource depletion are much higher than what is good for the function needed.
Connect all the dots before making assumptions like that.

Personally i will choose cd´s any day of the week over intangible files on a harddrive. I prefer to have dedicated equipment for the job at hand and see no reason to boot up a computer just to enjoy sound in my life. Regardless of means of distribution good music is worth the support of listeners, but i personally get my stuff encoded on shiny discs and buy it like that as well.
Sales are low but fans often dedicated, for me it makes sense to at least give them something to have in their hands to sense and feel for the money, but at the same time i am not discounting other means of doing the same thing.           Mastering available here:

Oviously and unfortunately Psytrance music is not for making any big money. But I think for collecting many extraordinary special expiriences in each of our microcosmos. The spirits trippin or the artists spreading their psychedelic vibes ..however it all connects into one and if one ever fell in love with it, it's probably impossible to forget this ever. Eventhough the change is constant.
But it don't sell really . It's hard to say if this is unfortunate on a longer look for me. It defo will survive though, its only underground because it does not sell .. but the crowd is laarge over the planet , they could fill scenes where it sells

Personally I do not care what people prefer even though I can't stop thinking those who refuse to release digital loose out on a huge market out there.

But let's be realistic here.

Factory Procession of Plastic (Juvel Boxes), Factory processing of paper (Booklets and CD covers), the use of ink (CD prints and Booklets/CD Covers), use of factories to print the CD's, transportation by land, sea or air can NEVER be less polluting than using some cobber (or light cables) that's basically already in the ground and in use no matter what.

While individual sales of albums are low, it could be interesting to measure the real size of the psytrance music market (cd's+vynil+digital+parties).

My guess is that there is too much fragmentation causing very low profit for everyone.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Sales are going down, not because the psy scene is still underground, but because the psytrance business is unprofessional and too marginal compared to the "normal" business standarts.

Some labels (Kagdila anyone?) are acting like real jerks with their artists, abusing them financially and ethically, disrespecting them totally. Same thing with distributors (should I mention the case of Wirikuta again?). Party organizers are in the same basket too, not paying the live performances of the artists. The chain of the business is totally corrupted from alpha to omega. The image of psytrance can only be caricatural.

Psytrance is one of the very few (if not the one) scenes where artists accept to not get paid for their works in the condition that labels consider to release them on a cd! Sounds pathetic too me...
