And yeah Beatport is the source of alll crap music, and it's selling it, because they sell their asses, not the music, and big companies like this are destroying the diversity of music, and only the commercial artists that put naked woman on their covers, make a photoshots with sunglasses will see money from them.

Wake up and stop talking nonsense.
NOBODY donate shit on Ektoplazm or any other free portal.
Its very simple and basic psychology. You get something for free and do not even start to think about paying anyone for their effort.
And if you do not get it for free you will make sure to get it for "free" somewhere else.
Stop all the nonsense about supporting the artists these days. Its a huge scam and reality is that less than 1% bother to pay for music.

Funny how people have to trash Beatport when fact is Beatport is the only source for real income for artists these days talking music sale.
And you do not have to hate psytrance to appreciate Beatport.
My tunes are as underground as it gets and I make pretty good cash (compared to the overall state of the underground music bizz) from Beatport and have since 2003. So no it's not only for commercial artists. www.beatagency.dk |

Digital download is not their main business, they are just making downloads for a small part of the releases. They are specialised in CD distribution...
Good for you if you are making a living from beatport sales, are we talking about your tribal/goa projects?

Definitely, cds aren't just music but a collectors item. I dont get why people today doesn't seem to like that =) some soul-less mp3/wav files on your laptop compared to a bunch of cds made with love  Just buy the stuff you like and stop bitching, its not like we are talking about hundreds of dollars, its just greedyness not buying the music you like on cd or not, if more people would chip in eveything would be so much better, and yes, i buy cds.

Me too, i guess it's only the artists that buy the cds this days 
There are some articles around net that the big major labels will not distribute their music on CD's anymore from 1 january, small labels wanted or not will follow...

This attitude is ridiculous! I absolutely love my FLAC/WAV/MP3s.
I get the same art.
I get the same music in the *Exact* same quality
However, I do not support completely *wasteful* use of precious resources used in the pressing and distribution process.
Also, buying direct from an artist is more money in their pocket. I will never buy another CD ever again...
CDs are not made with love. They're made by machines. The *MUSIC* is made with love (well, hopefully) and the medium on which the music exists has nothing to do with it or the experience of it..

We as a label, need all the support possible, so our artists can get some gain from their works, If you go to all the famous digital stores you will find that our releases are great, check the label out. |

how consistent is this ? like getting a cheque in the mail every month?
love your downtempo music btw, you should put something out in the chillout section of the site, make it more visible to people who are not only looking for goa and psytrance.

As someone who has released music on Ektoplazm and Neurobiotic Records I have to say that releasing music on a "major" free net label has helped lots to get the music out to as many people as possible, fast and easy. It also helped us get some gigs.
That is a good thing.
Releasing music on Neurobiotic helped us reach some of our favorite DJs and producers who follow the output of Neurobiotic, yet do not follow the output of Ektoplazm. From our experience a lot of the "big names" who play lots of gigs, do not even know Ektoplazm exists, let alone bother to check what gets released there and download it.Same applies for people who put on big parties and festivals.
That is also a good thing.
It has nothing to do with money, as neither it is a way that provides the means to pay the bills and once the music gets released, it will be available for free download, whether it is legally available off Ektoplazm, or illegally available through pirate sites.
So, speaking for my self, they are both good things. Releasing music for free on Ekto has its pros, releasing music on your favourite established labels has also its pros.
The con of having to pay for the music is irrelevant since most people download music for free off pirate sites.

It's like getting a cheque every 3 months. My point was that I make more money (Not getting rich though) from releasing on Beatport than all the income from other stores combined.
Beatport has it's faults but at least it gives the artists an opportunity to release their music to a huge amount of people who actually care enough to pay for the music they use.
Thanks for the kind words about my downtempo. I have had my music in the chillout section and promoted it with very little interest from the regular visitors. I guess when the music is not dubby chilltrance(psychill) etc. the interest is not great

No one said it's not a good thing to release for free but the idea that all the artists there gain from it or get donations is Utopia (Not saying you said it). Its a very small handful who actually benefit from it with gigs. usually artists with a slight more commercial sound and fast bpm.
