Single Osc-> saw-wave, one env for amp+filter.

Play around with that to get a nice basic bass, rest is up to you (effects n stuff)

I like the old Muon Tau and the Muon electro.
No one pays attention to them anymore.
Steinberg CS40 is cool too!

VB-1 is also nice, but for tiny basses imo.
I'm not into Cronox! Don't like it much

yes old synths still rocks for bassline, esm,es1,albino,pentagon ,tau ,vb1,cs40,junglist...

TB-303 is best or... if you need plugin try AudioRealism BassLine 2. In my opinion is the easiest and best stuff to make bass and even leads.

Thanks for all your advice! Im really liking the sound of progressive psy. Does anyone know the pattern for the bass in the following song from NEELIX? It may be the basic KBBB with some Efx attached to it. Also is Ableton live a good program for producing psytrance or are others better for this genre?

Use the search!

All the information you might need to begin is in here.

Moderators, not sure why you don´t lock the topic once he has been given the mother of all basslines link....

Anyway, keep the chaos going!           0´s and 1´s

it's takes few months to get good kick and bass combo

Maybe 1-2 minutes to find the combination (With a coffee + a cigarette in one hand + Holding and talk in the telephone in the other) But first have to made them no ? .. That can take 5 min' more and for the rest - Filters , compressor and that 3 more min' , Then to hear it and being happy with .. 2 min'.

Total (Max) = 15 minutes (In a very bad day) .

But as Soulfood wrote its taking years to get there .

Its all up to you .. Same as life . Good luck then ..

Duuuude.. use the search! There's a thousand threads about this. Step 1 for you is to listen to a lot more trance and really _listen_. That's not KBBB.
Sequencers aren't genre-based, you can use any sequencer.

Yup. Also once you're there a couple of months later you'll realise you're not

take trilogy or trillian
single saw
tweak filter envelope and envelope depth and cutoff

don't use eq or comp or any other fx. if you can't make it sound fat you are doing something wrong. it's true.

I'm almost there. I no longer use compression, but I'm always cutting at 500hz to get that scooped sound and to make some space. Though you can get a similar sound by adding a notch filter on the synth which is better because you can add tracking straight from the synth, but it does sound quite extreme compared to EQ.

First year it took me around 2 weeks to get a decent bassline... second year it took me around 2 days... this year i can do it in an hour or less.

It is about knowing what to tweak and what you want to get, i used to put lots of fx but now i do it with less, just the synth and eq, sometimes comp.

I do tweak the bassline all the time until the track is finished...

I'm completely the other way round. I'd often do the bassline in about 5 minutes and just carry on, same as the rest of the track. Whereas 4 years later I won't even start the rest of the track until the kick and bassline are my finest work to date.

I suppose I've spent the last 4 years trying to get the most perfect kbbb line and the next step is throwing in notes of varying length but without losing the drive the 16ths would bring to the track. A very difficult task indeed. Then the next step will be getting those on the beat notes to sound just as crisp without compromising the kick. Then once I've got all that down, it's going to be all about breaking the rules

So hopefully in another 4 years I'll have a pretty nice bass style I can call my own
