Ive always wondered; what do the top artists bring in per year? Does anyone have a guess? I mean at what level of the 'game' is a strictly psy artist, who produces and spins full time, able to eat stuff other then ramen and stop couch-surging? A joke of course, but you know what I mean?
What do the guys at the very top make, like Astrix, and then the folks who are touring worldwide full time, but are still somewhat "underground", for lack of a better word? |

yes, i know we all do it for the love of the music and where it takes us. However, a little discussed subject (in the psy scene) is what I am posting about.
I am not asking this as if I am basing my future involvement on what answers I find...I am just purely wondering if even the guys at the top are hippy bums like us, or if they quietly lead a pretty cushy life. If so, I am just wondering guesstimates on what a DJ that headlines, say, Boom or Universo, brings in per month (the people that tour worldwide for months or years at a time, and cant possibly work a normal job,due to producing and spinning out).
Dont read to far into it...just wanted to hear some ideas =) |

You need to know how much they get paid per gig on average, then look at their schedule. Good luck with finding out.
Although my case is by no means typical for a full-timer in this scene as I'm part of a 4-piece band (which means we are often forced to compromise on fees in order to get us all to the gig in the first place, after which our fee gets split 4 ways), it might be helpful to give my take on this. As someone who has played at sunset on the last day of Universo Paralello, and who has headlined Boom (proper headlining I mean, with a special section on the lineup on the website and interviews and extended buildups in the printed festival newspaper) I do music full-time, including mastering, production, gigging and a a little music tech tuition in a school one afternoon a week.
In the tax year 2010-11, I turned over a little over £7000.

in majority of cases dj's/producers get much lower fees on their own countries, I bet same guys can get easy 500 in other countries.
To make a living from psytrance is that u need to be dj/producer and party organiser, cause u can actually make some living from organising parties if your scene is big enought that u can get enought ravers for your event, but still it need lotsa work to get in to that kind of position that people want to come to your parties and they wait for them.
I'm a dj and party organiser and i make my living from my day job

Chemogen - 200 euro for the good locals like Lox, Regan, Connecto etc? Interesting to see fees haven't changed since 2007... |
