Hi,

I hope it's not too much offtopic but I wanted to talk a bit about techno. In Belgium it's much more popular than psytrance, with for example the famous club "Fuse". In Germany there's the even more famous club "Tresor", which is, I think, the pioneer of underground techno sound. I was wondering what you, people here reading my post, do think of techno.

Is the psytrance scene completly hermetic to the techno scene ? Do you know Dj's who mix psytrance and techno together ? If so, how good does that sound ? I know there's a slight difference between psy (145 BPM) and techno (more often 140 bpm at most).

That's what I'm trying to do, mixing psytrance and techno, but it doesn't sound very good :-/. Is it only because I am a bad DJ (I know I am, I got my mixing material only 6 months ago, and with university I don't have much time to play with), or is because it's not possible to do that ?

Opinions would be much appreciated

Techno is a much wider genre than psytrance, since it has been bigger than psytrance for so many years. These days some techno run at 135, while some pound on in 160. I feel that alot of psytrance today has taken elements from techno when it comes to beats (I know I do:)). This goes for the harder side of psytrance. So if you're gonna mix psytrance and techno I think you should try to mix some hard psy with schranz techno Good luck

I'm beginning to realise there is not really that much of a difference between the 2. Most psytrance focusses on melody & most techno focusses more on rhythm, but there is always the grey area between the 2 & I think that's great! I've been trying to figure out what some good techno is because I can't handle highly repetitve music, such as the rhythm section in most psytrance but it's hard to find that right balance between rhythm & melody, with neither end of the spectrum being too boring. Juno Reactor baby!!!           new Hadal Drop album on the way

if you don't have the last one get in touch

Shiva: You can mix whatever you want together my friend, as long as you do it proper. Now, what is proper?? well, proper doesn't exist really, but what i think proper should be is as follows..

If you want to blend some techno tunes with some psytrance or full-on, you have to perform long mixes, swapping basslines at the right moments, interchanging the High's at proper times (en of 64 bars maybe?), and play with the mids..

The hardest part is fading out the "trance" aspect to fall into the loopyness of techno, and that is the hardest part (if your trying to fool the crowd that is).

So yeah, it can be done, but to get it to sound good, thats will take alot of practice and a little more than a 64 bar beatmatch..

best of luck and post up a demo when your done playing around..           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! (techtrance invasion) ---> http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/86303/forum/9

Hi, I come from germany.
Sometimes I go to a technoparty (Hamburg: Phonodrome) and sometime to some psyevents. I use to produced some techtrance tunes, too (completly influenced by technoparty experiences). In my opinion both styles work together well! I have also seen a techno-Dj, who used trancy tunes in his set and it was realy good in my opinion but the technocrowd was not realy impressed, they want hard stuff. The Styles of the Midi/Spirallianzcrew are soft, compared to real technosound. Its also very interesting that technotunes have our fullonbasslines since an age, while we have such melodic sublines just a couple of years. Anyway the evolution of improving the innovation has died in techno, too. So combining both styles (techno, trance), in other directions as midimiliz allready did, could give a lot of people the new enlightment.

Hey, mixing techno and psy is a brilliant idea...

I dont really know that much techno, but if anyone would like to recommend some names, the harder the better, preferebly between 140 and 150 bpm...

@ Kitnam:
Midi miliz soft??
Could you recommend some groups that make miliz sound soft, i would love to listen to them??

Here in Croatia, techno is huge also. I would say 60% techno, 30% house/techhouse, and only 10% trance.
I guess that had a signifcant influence on my taste.

Anyway, I really like to incorporate techno tunes in my sets, but not alway. Sometimes I play psy-progressive, sometimes progressive house (or whatever its called ) but when the feeling is right, I like to combine some groovier tribal techno like Ben Sims, Marco Carola or Oxia with tracks from Kontrasequenz or Martin H.

ALso i agree with Kitnam 'bout MidiMiliz and Spirallianz, they are softer compared to "real" techno artists, but from psytrancers point of view - they are very technoish.
Also agree that there isnt too much innovation involved in techno scene lately, but recently I've heard Ben Sims playing here, and he had extremly groovie basslines combined with total tribalness, it was really good and a bit different then usual techno style. Not so hard thou.

And I think trance scene is much more open to techno then techno scene is to trance. IMHO.

Cheers

I like most other styles of dance music... especially techno. Id like to hear techno and psy in one set, Im a big fan of hearing variety in a set.

Check out Tsuyoshi Suzuki... he plays techno and psy... not sure if he plays them together in the one set though. Actually I think he may have in a Triple J set (Australian radio station).           We're all just complex arrangements of atoms and sub atomic particles
