Can complete song productions be made only using and Roland MC or APC 1000 and an external synth?

I mean working with such limited effects an the arrangement options.. is really possible?

And if it is, do you really know anyone doing it?

theoretically yes, but actually no. :-P

1st, you don't want to use a roland MC (any), if you want to do something really serious.
(i know you can and some do, but.. it's too 'limited')

2nd, you will need some more outboard equip, like fx, eq, comp, whatever.

though the mpc 1000 (with JJ OS) and a synth can be a nice start. iirc you can record a full song on an MPC audio track, but i'm sure the overall handling is not easy.

i think a more allrounder solution is a roland MV, but i don't know much about these machines.

after all you can produce something with anything, depending on what you want to do and achieve.
especially ambient/atmospheres you can easily make with a keyboard and one poly synth, maybe with internal fx, but then you will also need something for recording, mastering..

Nowadays not anymore i think. Software can be so useful that it doesnt make sense to only use hardware imho.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

i started out wanting to be all hardware live pa, but quickly realized that i wasn't going to progress much farther than neo-goa with it.... now i'm a computer nut and wouldn't ever revert to pure hardware.... hybrid yes, hardware no....

have a listen on my songs on myspace / Soundcloud
They are entirely produced with an MV8000 (512MB Ram)and hardware synths.
But software is much much more convenient.

I am now back on Cubase but I learned a LOT of such limitations:)

It's entirely within the realm of possibility (and fun!) to do an all hardware ambient live, but I haven't seen a psy/goa live that was all hardware that didn't also incorporate external recorded audio (e.g. from a CD etc.) that was any good.

That's not to say it's not possible, but it would take a lot of hardware and programming time, and probably more than just one person who knows the gear inside and out.

Yeah, I went to a studio (a very small one) i got a callback from someone when I was applying at studios so I drive 2 hours to find a crappy local band recording in a garage. They offered me $15 an hour to work. They wanted to see what I could do. I'm like okay I can operate cubase for this session but as far as your hardware goes i'd have to learn how you have it all routed. They didn't understand that and thus I wasn't hired. I told them I could do everything without their hardware but they did not listen. "No you have to have a hardware compresor"

sometimes i like to try and make songs using only my Virus in multimbral mode. it's better for minimal and progressive rather than full-on, but very much possible and very much fun... and good for your knowledge of synthesis.

there are 16 parts in a Virus, a latchable patch demo control and a really useful arpeggiator with lots of patterns and useful swing and range controls. so you can get a kick with an envelope pitchbent sine and a simple 4/4 arp... a chunky saw bass with a 16th note arp... various hi-hat layers, ambient pads, main sounds etc. etc...

then you just switch between the parts, using the part volume control as a mixer, the FX sends etc. etc.

i think with enough practice i could do a minimal set with it. not sure how good it would be, but yeah. fun. especially because you don't have to boot up your PC!

would cost too much to replace a computer imo,you need eq, comps ,delay ,reverbs a desk....but you can complete some tracks for sure with this set up , it s a bit limited but sometimes it s a good thing to learn the gear inside out and getting the best out of them.

imo the term 'created exclusively with an Akay Mpc2000' is a bit misleading in the context of this thread.
after all, it's just a sampler and the samples come from somewhere outside the mpc.

didn't listen to the tracks yet, but i will later.
