Psytekk is a newcomer from Israel, who recently got signed on one of Israels biggest labels, USTA (former Krembo). After 2 tracks on the 2 CD compilation "Zoo-B 2", the debut album "Good Purpose" is now ready to be released.

First thing you notice with this release is the cover, a cartoon superhero with the the initials PT (I guess we all know what that stands for) beating some nasty villain. Quite funny, and does stand out in the jungle of new CD's. Oh well, moving on to the tracklist:

1. Sonic Pulse
2. Sub Conscious
3. The Magic Dragon
4. Good Purpose
5. Dynamic Reality
6. Latinos
7. Beat Hackers - System Error (Psytekk Remix)
8. The Phone Call
9. Closing The...

The album starts out with some tribal beats and samba rhythms, and quite fast we're introduced to the full on bassline we've learnt to love (or hate).

After the tribal start, the album moves into darker territories with "Sub Conscious", there's some morning and nighttime music, and after another quite tribal track it's time for the most powerfull track on the album: The remix of Beat Hackers "System Error" - and also my favourite with the closing track.

As time pass by, I notice a lot of sounds I've heard many times before. Psytekk is clearly very inspired by artists like Astrix, Deedrah and GMS, and sometimes it does work pretty nice - while other times it's not really my cup of chai.

Giving in depth comments about each track would, in this case, seem quite pointless as most of them sound very alike. All of them are very full on, there are some "killers" - but they're not so interesting for home listening.

Conclusion:

USTA picked up a promising newcomer here, and I'm sure we'll here a lot more from Psytekk in the future. Still, this CD doesn't really stand out between all the israeli full on releases these days. Both his tracks on "Zoo-B 2" where pretty good (some of my favs. on that release), but the album isn't as good as it could have been, if he had matured a bit - a full album is too much for my taste, and it gets monotonous after some time (atleast at home).

If you're a big fan of israeli full on, this release is definatly worth purchasing, but it's not a must-have. If you think there's too much full on released at the moment, I would suggest you buy something else.

Final Verdict:

6.5/10 - recommended on the dancefloor, and for the israeli full on fan.

Psytekk is the latest in USTA’s crop of new artists. His debut album,
Good Purpose, shows a new artist with potential. However, that potential
is not fully achieved on this release. The tracks lean toward full on,
with a healthy dose of club sensibility blended in, but sometimes seem to
stagnate. The sound is extremely compressed in points, to where it’s
noticeable, and the sound pallet itself seems very… influenced. Beyond
those gripes, there is an art to Psytekk’s song crafting. Nothing that
pushes at the edges, but well done for what it is and what it’s intended
for… trancing and dancing.

Psytekk (Hanan Biton) delivers his debut album Good Purpose.

My first impress was enthusiastic : Psytekk gives nice euphoristic & energistic melodic full on productions.

My second impress was contrasted : The Psytekk’s tunes are too much based on artist’s anthems as :1200 Mics ( Ayahuasca) , Dynamic (Dj on pills, Dynamix) , Astrix, Psydrop …

My global opinion is shared nevertheless a good & effective full on production, i don’t catch enough the Psytekk’s touch on this album which sounds to me closer to remixes work than real creations.

My wish : I would like to hear for the next time something more personnal coming from Psytekk, i’m sure he can (& he should) grow musically on his own.

Yeap...
The guy has potential, but he rushed too soon to deliver an album - this is what I think.           Majority is never right!

For me it´s a good album but the similarity between track 3 and psychedelic circus is too much. Or anyone thinks i´m wrong?
