We return giving a look at the flourishing Brazilian Psychedelic scene with this review of the album Ayahuasca Sagrada by Psysun.
Psysun
Psysun is a relatively new project by producer Yuri X and is the culmination of years of experience gathered live on the dancefloors all over the Brazilian territory. This album is the debut release of this project, but more productions are expected to be released in the coming months.
Psysun – Ayahuasca Sagrada (Speedsound Records)
Sounding fresh while providing the needed variety is a job that many Trance producers are finding extremely difficult nowadays, so it is always a pleasant surprise when we happen to cross a release that delivers this and more.
1. Psysun vs Ares – Ayahuasca Sagrada (Live Edit)
The Live Edit of Ayahuasca Sagrada is a nonstop Tech-Trance Psychedelic banger despite using a fairly uncharacteristic "empty" kick. A gritty and dark track to not give any respite to the people dancing on the dancefloor.
2. Nostromondo
Nostromondo moves into more atmospheric moods as the track is characterized by a bouncy groove and tribalistic connotations. The drum percussion introduced at the 2.48 mark closely reminds the track D Sigual - Back Order, probably this is just casual but this production in certain parts may be exchanged for a psychedelic follow-up or remix of that track.
3. O Daime é a Minha Lu
While D Sigual - Back Order is a track that few of you have heard or still remember, we are pretty sure that the name Der Dritte Raum will wake up pleasant memories in your mind. This O Daime é a Minha Lu seems to be a modern Psychedelic homage to the German duo that has made the history of the Trance genre with tracks such as Hale Bopp and Trommelmaschine.
4. A Carne é Fraca
The first thing that stands out in this A Carne é Fraca is the intro, a wicked ingenuous musical artwork. Only then you will probably realize the short length of this track, that however is a proper concentrate of Psychedelic energy, mainly thanks to a really well guessed combination of kick and bassline.
5. Pássaros de Fogo
We return to more dark and evil twisted banging territory with this Pássaros de Fogo. Another non-stop full energy ride in Psychedelic madness opened and closed by the sound of nature (Brazilian Amazon anyone?).
6. Visões do Futuro
Finally a more relaxing mood in this penultimate track of the album, as if Psysun wanted to let us know that he is very well capable of handling even more melodic sounds and atmospheres. Do not worry, this is not a cheap attempt to attract the commercial crowd, no cheesiness here and the track is still fairly pounding.
7. Psysun vs Ares – Ayahuasca Sagrada (Ares Remix)
The release closes with a remix of Ares of Ayahuasca Sagrada. This track is the only bland work on the album, the slowed down take of this remix just does not seems to fit with the track sounds and the release as a whole.
Verdict: Except for the Ares remix of Ayahuasca Sagrada, all the other tracks are exactly what we expect and want from a banging Psychedelic Progressive release.
Rating: 8/10
