and a great party it was.

more people were excpected,
but the end result was a truly unique and personal atmosphere, very good people and the best vibes a psytrance party can offer.
Simo from Trancegression pulled a great production.

nice meeting everyone, Rinkadink,Protoculture,Hydrophonic, jaques and everyone else.....

you can have a glimpse at the party in a new clip online at the psysex website

Well, if you insist, here's my (FULL)review:

The location was amazing, about an hour drive from the center of Capetwon.
it was in between some hills and right next to a huge lake.
The sound was killer, actually one of the better sound systems iv'e heard in an outdoor party.Deco was amazing as well.
The orginser excpected about double the amount of people that finally appeared,
But i must say,the absence of them was not felt at all, as the energies in this party, were some of the best i have ever experienced.

The music was kicked off by Jorge Carlos.
quite interesting stuff, starting with ambient and moving to Drum & bass, all with live guitar above it which he played pretty well.
Nice stuff and quite a joy to listen,as an intro for the full on mayhem that followed.

After him Protoculture took the helm.
i like the music he makes, and his Mixing & all are good, but i just HATE listening to ASTRIX at 0:00 at night,it just doesn't feel right...
and he played quite a few tracks from his album.
This shit is going down all over the world : Lots of DJ's don't give a fuck about the time they play in, and just want to get the best reaction from the crowd, buy putting full-on morning stuff that early.COME ON...
i guess the fault is on the orginisers as well though, they should know when to put who.

Razzmatazz, which is actually Tamir,an israely living in Capetown, played next.
his set was cool, nice mixing and music that was certanly apropriate for the time.

Then DAMAGE played live.
well, they had a bit of a problem at start -
the DJ before them took the bass on the mixer all the way down, and for a few minutes of their first track, they had no bass.
at first the people thought it was part of the act,but after a few minutes it appeard to be just Damage....
Anyway once started again they were actually quite good.nice production and buildups.
You could definitly hear Skazy influence in their style - and the crowd loved it.

Bent Sentient played a DJ set after, but i failed to listen to it, as i was strolling around, meeting and talking to nice people from Japan, portugal and Israel.

After him Simo (The Orginiser)played a 1-hour set.very rough and pumping with flawless mixing.nice one dude.

We(Psysex)were next,at 7:00.
i enjoyed playing there enormously,
this crowd fuckin Rocks! we played a mixed live set of oldies and newbies, and it was all good....

After the live we played a long DJ set Back 2 Back, with fresh tracks from Cosma,Panick,Sub 6,Infected and so on and so forth.
one track that made lots of Balagan there was actually FERBI BOYS - Carnaval......

Then, around 10,Our set was horribly interrupted by the death of the main power generator......
for around 30 minutes no one knew what would be the fate of the party from that point.
But around an hour later, the guyz orginised another generator and the party continued! what was amazing was that almost no one left, and once the power went on,we kicked it with EL NOVASION remix from Sub 6,and they all went wild....

Rinkadink played next, they make good music, but i think it was a bit harsh for that time of the day(around 12 at noon).Nevertheless,
the crowd ate it for breakfast with no problems.

After that, Hydrophonic & The Electric Ant(which altogether are NANO records owners and managers) played,
not entirely live, but a nice combination of music and some effects from vinyl.

At that stage though, we sure were pooped,
and headed to bed....

All in all a fantastic party from Trancegression.
You can see it for yourselves, as i stated above, in a short clip that i took with my camera & was edited by Wako Jako...

Very good review, Mr.Hanky, that's what I wanted, thanks!
Must have been a great party! The video clip at your homepage is really cool.

Just one question: don't you think it's a matter of taste to play any kind of music any time on a party? I mean, I really like to hear morning full on after the sun rise (as well as good proggy stuff), but can't it be made in a different way? Just to know your opinion.
Respect!

No,
in my opinion it is not a matter of taste.
Trance parties are usually around 12 hours long, and if you want to make it REALLY work,
u have to build it up,like a story.
Start with Minimal/progressive music until around 3-4 ocklock.
Then start to take the BPM higher by making the music more Full on but still not very melodic. To make it short,"NIGHT" music.
As the sun rises,it is time to make the mood more atmospheric and exciting.
and once the sun is totally up,and people wanna here more emotions in their ears rather than Grinding chainsaws,it is finally time for Astrix and the likes.
Because once the crowd is rocking to the build up of ,for example,"scientific reality",
and then the next DJ is playing totally minimal, something is just not right.

This is how i see it,
it may be an oldschool view, but this way the story slowly unfolds, and makes the music line up flow the best way.
These rules apply also in a club, although since it is indoor it is much more versatile.

Thanks for explaining me your point of view in such a illustrative way.
I really agree that if a DJ is playing full on (Astrix, Skazi, Ferby Boys, etc) the next DJ just can't play minimal, cause then he'll be killing the vibes.

The way you put the things, the organizers have a great responsability for what will happen in a party, since they decide the line up.
Also, the DJs should take care to not finish their sets with high BPM/too killer tracks, else the next DJ will be in trouble. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
Respect!

i totaly agree with hanky on this one...
Astrix's music should be played at sunrise.
night time is not for melodies....

SMILE ! and the whole world will smile right back at you !

full-on>>> there are ways to get around it if the dj that played before you, ended his set with high bpm full-on trax. like playing a short break beat intro or something. this keeps the vibe interesting and killes the previous vibe.

Actually, El Audio gave a very progressive and soft DJ set right after Dotan gave a techtrance / hard full-on sunrise. And guess what? It worked.

If a DJ does it right, no matter who played before him, it's amazing.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
