ocelot's thread got me thinking. has anyone ever tried to incorporate dnb in a psytrance track or vice versa? the bpm of dnb tends to be in the range of 160-175 which is the same vein as hi-tech.

Check the Crazy Astronaut album, it has element of DnB in it.

Also there was an act doing a lot of this and had some good free release on Ektoplazm, name escapes me but he was big on Psynews.

The first Violet Vision album attempted this a bit and it worked to an extent.

The final track on the last KDD album was like an attempt at hi-tech dubstep but to me it came across as a poor attempt.

Some of the track(s) off Insector - predator album have breaks that lead in to kind drum n bass sections but pretty briefly.

From what I gather quality drum n bass isn't that easy to produce so it might be the reason why.

Early tracks by Spor had slight trance vibe to them:

his later stuff is also good but has a slight more commercial edge to it

and now I think he works under an alias doing electro house or something because he knows that's where the money's at!           Cuntus Maximus.

those are great spor tracks. and i tend to agree. neurofunk has a lot of similarities to psytrance in terms of psychedelia.

I agree about the difficulty in making dnb. psytrance is a breeze compared to dnb production. just getting that bass right is hard to do.

I've always thought it would sound pretty nifty to have a rolling bass (in addition to other prominent sounds in psytrance) during the intro or during one of the breakdowns of a dnb track.

were you talking about cybernetika?

Yes cybernetika was it.

I definitely think the sub bass of neurofunk has a place in psycore etc.

Not sure what you mean re. rolling bass in neurofunk. I need to hear as the concept to me doesn't sound great.

Spor did some amazing work earlier in his career, as did most the early roster of Barcode Recordings. Ewun was one of their producers who blew me away, his Shades Of Black mix is amazing.

Today I only buy from Renegade Hardware, no other labeled releases such a level of quality neurofunk.

I've been trying my hands on producing in this style for most of this year but without anyone to show me hands on how to do it well it's probably the most frustrating EDM to self teach.

Also you need to have a room set up very well acoustically to achieve that level of sub bass.           Cuntus Maximus.

i don't think those two can be combined...dnb works both in 170 and 85...4/4 kick holds you permantly on the 170 mentaly on the other.psy and techy dnb has similar philosophy and many times same samples used but completely different progression...many times only two themes ineract until the breakdown.then the second part is exactly the same and it's mixed whith the next tune.you can see up to 25 tracks in a 1 hr mix...it's relly dj music...

That's why it takes a talented producer to integrate parts of both. And IMO the "hi tel" trance works very well being mashed like DnB. I've got no talent for it but my neighbor who's a DnB dj did a mash up of my Kamino & Osom collection a week ago & it went down a treat.           Cuntus Maximus.

i had a talk with a friend of mine which loves dnb for a very long time period, explaind me how it dnb where maid and that it actually is quite similar to techno wich also developt from jungle.

so have a listen to this tune, its the more techno way of doing dnb and i guess it shows that there is plenty of room for psytrance sounds:
