just download all the videos, was going to watch one, reinstalled the real player but all i get is this really wierd audio chirping from the real player
i use a mac, and to tell you the truth, i have never had a good experience with this player
it should be in a format that the vlc player can use, because its reliable and compatible with all platforms. windows media and quicktime can both be sketchy also.. Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Hi,
All the high Res videos can be played and watched perfectly using VLC player.
The Lo Res ones are in Rmvb format, which is why they are LO RES, this format allows for large files being highly compressed.
I have checked the file son both MAc and Pc and they play fine and i have had no complaints from anyone else regarding playing them back on mac or pc.
Maybe you are lacking some codecs. did you download the high res videos and try those? they are in AVI format which also play perfectly on VLC player.

Hi Mark,
Yeah I got the hi-res ones they work fine, but I want to watch the lo-res ones also..
they play back on my mac, but again the audio is messed up. cant be a codec problem, because I am using the real player for mac which should include the codecs and work.
any chance of making them in a format other than real? wmv has pretty good compression too, which does work on my mac..
thanks,
Dale

Hi Dale,
Sorry there is no chance of me creating the videos in another format and i am 100% sure its something your end as there are 0 problems with any other mac users and on the mac i tested it on.
cheers

Hi Mark,
I am saddened and disappointed to hear that :-(
After installing realplayer, what else is there to do to make it work, and how can it be a problem on my end if it doesn't work as its supposed to? Are you suggesting that I am lying or incompetent?
I would think it prudent to offer both lo and hi res formats of all of your videos available for download, thus giving a choice of 2 formats, which would solve my problem, and create a more professional platform to boot. mp4 should be the defaco standard for all videos you make, with lo-res being the option, not the other way around
At the very least you could give some suggestion how to get it to work than 'sorry, no chance, your screwed, it worked for me'
I work in IT too, and I understand getting frustrated by inane user requests, but when your trying to push a product and build a future business, I would expect a little more resolve on your part in trying to keep your customers satisfied and happy instead of pissing them off... even if it did work for 'everyone else' Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

Consequently, I just installed Real Player on an intel MAC at work, and it does indeed work, so I would say this issue is limited to PPC MAC users. nonethless, I stand by what I said

Hi Dale,
I am sorry if you see this as me attacking your honesty or your ability to use a certain file type and/or machine.
However i dont see how i can justify my own time and other users time by converting the files to another file format for a solitary user, if it was for multiple users and was showing that there was a wide spread problem then yeah i would have had to do it. When i said you are the only one to have reported this problem, i wasn't exaggerating or trying to avoid the extra work this was simply the truth.
I created the files in the best way that i could taking into account bandwidth of everyone hence the lo and hi res. I thoroughly tested the low res rmvb files on as many systems as i possibly could as well as other file formats before releasing them with any problems i came across dealt with to the best of my ability.
Making all the videos available in mp4 or AVI would have meant that the videos where all extremely large, as the Hi Res ones are and would have negated the point of trying to make it easier for people with low bandwidth.
I think in the future i may just have to make all my videos in MP4 ONLY and perhaps making more videos instead of less large ones so that everyone can utilise VLC and the MP4 file format. It has been noted.
I hope this hasn't ruined your enjoyment of the course and am deeply sorry if you have had less than an enjoyable experience of the course.

Well Dale, it is a waste of our time to come across users like you trying to blackmail with such poor comments. The course was 100%..all videos worked for me, and for many others..and it seems you ARE THE ONLY PERSON complaining about it. When you say you work in IT, I hope you don't mean fixing your mum wireless network, while you stay at home watching porn. If you cant play the videos IN YOUR MAC, you can ask me to convert the videos for u. I will use the software convert and play videos for dummies. And after that I will send my mum to ur house so she can keep it clean for ya!
Terrible to hear you accuse such professional with stuffs like that.
I hope you can get it sorted BY URSELF, because it worked to many others ...and you cherry is the only Faberge Egg.
Take care

Hi there,
I bought that course a few days ago, and I thought IŽd give it a short review here from a noobs perspective
I must say tho that I am by far no expert in music production and stuff. Im playing around with it for a few years now but never came close to producing even one track...mostly because i was missing some important basics(which I know now )
When I started to watch the first vid, I was a bit disappointed. There is lots of software used in the course which I dont have. I then decided to first watch the whole course through...that was a good decision
I watched everything except the last two vids now (final mix/mastering) and I have learned a lot of things...the whole concept of making a track, doing the transitions between parts and how sfx/leads/pads and stuff can be used. The extra vid about how to make a kickdrum was really helpful too...I didnŽt think that was so easy
The software is no problem I think...I was able to get most things, be it as demo or *cough* as "try(al)"version
My Plan is to build an own track with the course as "manual", with self created kickdrum, effects and stuff...but iŽll use some of the samples provided...like the crash or that freaky Q-voice
Well, to make it short: Great course, very helpful even for a noob...Im looking forward for the new course about synths(just preordered it)... they are still somewhat of a mystery to me...I know how they work and a bit how to use them, but its hard to get a sound of them which sounds like i want it to sound
Again: great work,...thx a lot and keep it up!

Hi,
thanks for your review Kryten, i am glad the course has helped you out and i deliberately added links to any demo software and i also supplied alternatives that could be used to the software i use on the course as i knew not everyone would have the software i use in the course, that would be impossible to cover.
Dukedija - Thanks for your words also even if they are a little OTT.

whatever dude. any complaint from a paying customer should be a legitimate complaint. your personal attack is noted, as well as your age and maturity level.
>Soundmagus
Sorry if my response was a little terse. Some end of year stress, and frustration at not having it work. It could have been avoided if you responded to my emails, or here in a less authoritative manner.
Anway with that out of the way, I reiterate to all that Real Player is buggered on Apple Mac PPC (NOT INTEL). Just the same, PPC is being EOLed by both Apple and the rest of the software community, even if there are users still out there like myself.
All in all I am finding the course very useful, and as a Logic user myself, I have found the concepts universal and applicable to all sequencers and platforms. I would encourage you to harness that potential going forward. For example, if you had a Reaper user on Linux, they could really benfit alot from your course. However at present they would be barred from taking it, as Real Player is not available on Linux. You can still get pretty good compression on Mov, Mp4, and even WMV if it must be. I regularly upload stuff to youtube and can vouch for this.
All of the lo-res videos seem categorized as extra or bonus videos, but inside the course you refer to them frequently, i.e. in the Vocals video you dont go into detail how you do the slowdown, and refer to the Vocals slowdown.rmvb. This is kind of paradoxical because these "bonus" videos are relevant course material. So I would give them the same weight and options i.e. having hi-res also available. So anyway, yeah i have another computer I can watch them on, so you dont have to make any changes 'just for me'. However, as I suggested above, to really make the most of your ideas and reach the widest audience I would go with an open format.
Hopefully this doesnt seem like a rant, and can be taken constructively. Overall, I really like your teaching style, even if it does seemed aimed at novices, I think intermediate and even advanced users could get alot out of this course too, as it always helps to see how other people work, and even professionals often take seminars to better themselves. Although it is common to target the least common denominator, I would encourage you to take a more neutral approach, less basic stuff like file management, and building on the arrangement concepts and style you have. If this is a first effort at a paid product like this, its not bad in any way
The last bit of advice I would want to give is, drop the CubaseGuru bit. 1) and this is partly in jest, no self respecting Guru would call themself a Guru. 2) i could care less about Cubase yet I am finding what you teach very useful. As a longtime user on this forum I know that you know there are lots of people that use Fruity and other software. I would advise against creating divisions when it isnt necessary. I'd call it Soundmagus Videos. It sounds cooler, less pretentious and more you. just my 2cents
love and light

Yo thanks for the comments.
1 thing i will mention is the Domain name, i have been considering this myself. The reason for the Cubase Guru domain was due to the fact that i teach Cubase at a school level and was planning to make many many more lessons on cubase available but this hasn't transpired due to other commitment so i have been considering a new domain myself.
anyhoo we shall see what happens.
all the best,
Mark
