Hey. Can you recommend any synths or sample collections that have a lot of psychedelic sounds...?

I mean I know you can create anything with anything, but I am seeking something with a lot of psychedelic presets or a user inferface adapted for psychedelic sounds. Even preset collections for some generic synth (Albino?) would be interesting, I am just too lazy to synthesize everything bymyself =)

What I mean is:

- sounds without clear pitch, a lot of LFO modulation to pitch and filter. And also pitch controlled maybe by some envelope.
- I think some of these sounds are generated from noise and not from harmonic waves.
- also bell-like psychedelic sounds would be interesting (I suppose they are created with FM-synthesis..)?

- here are some example sounds that would be interesting to find:

Tristan - Toad, the background sound from 00:40 to 00:54. And all of the rest of the sounds in the same track
Astrix - Massive Activity, the background psychedelic sounds.

There was some very nice sounds in the modular synth of my Creamware Pulsar, but I uninstalled the card, so I don't have them anymore. If you know anything similar (presets!) please tell.

What you're describing can essentially be done with 90% of soft synths out there..

If you're looking for "psychedelic" presets, you're out of luck, and you might as well get a bunch of demo versions and dig through the hundreds of 80s leads to find one or two.

Learn to make your own sounds and you'll be able to get what you want out of anything.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

steps to make amazing psytrance lead.

1.make good rhythmic melody by your inspiration and mix it with track

2.send it to your friend

3.wait for a week

4.once he send it back, he has changed lead sound to kick with no low freq

5.it's called psychedelic conversion and in my case, sounded amazing

Get albino and predator synth. There is some presets that are good for psy but thats only if you wonna sound like everyone else.
In predator there is a whole bank called psytrance so check that out.
For albino you can find some cool presets made from cosmosis and i think syn sun, but i am not sure.

There is some vanguard presets too floating on the internet that some users from here have posted.
If you were on the forum a little longer you prob. would have all these.

I personly don't recommend you to use presets couse this way you will never write music that comes out of your head but will write music that comes out of other peoples heads and you will eventually run out of presets. I think presets are only good for study. You play the synth part and then you take it apart and see how the sounds are made. This is one great way to learn synthesis.

Imho, reading manuals to synths is much more useful than using presets.
For me it's still difficult to figure out what is going on when i open a preset of some complex synth, like Massive or FM-8, [the same in programming, btw, much easier for me to code by myself than to read other's code] (haha, the same in music, like to create much more than to listen lol =)),
but manuals contain very useful tips and guidelines often.           http://soundcloud.com/aedem

"Preset" and "psychedelic " don't fit in the same sentence. You can get great rythmic and lead sounds with presets but if you truly want something psychedelic, you need to tweak those parameters.

Also, for something to be truly psychedelic (and not just random noise as we hear so often) it has to be tweaked to perfection to fit the track. It needs to be played (or fake played) to start have an abstract vibe and direction. It needs to tell a story.

Time to start experimenting with your (soft)synths.

THE most important thing is the notes though. For me its the simple things that work the best.
Take a synth that is as simple as the 303 for example, what you are going to play and in what context is what makes the difference.

Well, I must say that I disagree a little bit

Metallica does not build own, personalized electric quitars, or do they?

Some people are good at arranging, some people at synthesizing, some at both. I like doing both, but some times it kills inspiration and makes forget ideas if you have to spend too much time in tweaking small details. In those cases good preset banks would be savers.

But thanks for the tip about predator, I have to check that out.

Since when is Metallica psychedelic? Lol!

Like I said, presets are fine for rythmic leads and stuff but not for psychedelic sounds.

That might just be my definition of psychedelic though... Some people use the word psychedelic for any sound or track they like. I think that just dilutes the meaning of the word. There are plenty of ways to say "I like it" but only a limited ways of saying that something is psychedelic. Please use the term correctly.

For fuck's sale man, guitars to metallica is what synths are to psychedelic trance producers!!! Metallica don't have presets for guitar riffs.
Get that inside your head and learn to play guitar (synth). You just got it confused, nobody can make music without knowing how to operate the instrument, and i am talking good music here. We know modern rnb and rap artists can produce shitty music without even knowing shit, but their music is about lyrics mostly... Get a hold of yourself and learn synths!           Monitoring devices, know where you go
